all of my Gannons fit better than customs where a conformateur was sent ... it is a bit of an overrated unnecessary step in my opinion and tends to confuse people on how to properly use it more than it provides accuracy.

my 6 best fitting customs are my 5 Gannons and my Penman ... the only 6 where the device was not used ... and no I was not one of those confused about how to use it ... but surprisingly many are

it truly seems to be more of a tradition within the process than a necessity today
Maybe my misshaped head! The conformateurs have all delivered much better fitting hats than the other customs I have.

I can definitely see how it could make a difference for extremely odd sized heads ... or people who have trouble with comfort off the rack ... but if I'm a 7 1/4 LO ... I'm a 7 1/4 LO with or without the device

the hat is not blocked on a block shaped like your head ... and a leather sweatband is flexible and contours the shape of the blocked hat ...

the step is not all that necessary today

If you wear 7-5/8 or 7-3/4 then SBG's hats would look a bit odd on you. :D

I don't know what you're talking about. That's the exact look I'm going for.

Question for you all. Has anybody dealth with ordering through Fashionable Hats before?

If so how was your experience?

How was the quality of the product and shipment received from them?

I am eyeballing a modern Stetson that is really quite affordable compared to other outlets.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I've never bought a hat from them, but a quick glance at their prices did not impress me. Are they running a sale?

The model I am looking at is around $30 cheaper than anywhere else.

Is this a wool felt hat? I started a thread a week or two ago called A Place For Wool Felt Fedoras. I'm a fan. At that price you can't touch a fur felt hat, and you can be 100% satisfied with wool felt if you understand the material.

If you are looking at a fedora styled hat then $30 is indeed very cheep. Please post photos of the hat once you get it and give us your review.

Sorry I can't provide any information on the vendor.

No it is Royal Deluxe. I didn't state it was $30. I said I would save around $30 At least for going through them.

My mistake. One of the problems with being an insomniac is that the mind isn't as sharp at 3:00 a.m. as it should be (I'm in California).

I'll wish you well and sign off before I embarrass myself anymore. Hope the hat works out.

I’ve had good fitting hats both with and without the conformateur step, and I agree 100% regarding the band block.

I have a hat resting on mine every day and I’ve often thought that having two or three of them would be a good idea.

Cheers! David

I feel a band block is the best investment a hat enthusiast could own

I haven't ordered from their hat website, but I have ordered from their Fashionable Canes website a few times. They shipped my orders within a day or two, even after cutting them to the length I requested, and the canes arrived in good condition. My experience with them has been problem free, but they only started selling hats online within the last year or two so they might still be learning the best way to package them for shipping.

That being said, they are a retail distributor and not a manufacturer, so the quality of their products is whatever the various manufacturers decide it is.

Likewise for me as well but I prefer to have a measurement with a conformateur on file with the hatter. Like custom boots or anything else I am often put off from trying a new craftsman until I know how the fit is likely to be.

Thank you. This makes me feel better about ordering a Gannon. How do you address head shape and not just circumference if you don't use a conformateur? One shop told me that I'm a long oval, but I'm not really certain.

I have to agree about the fit of a Gannon. Didn't you say that there is a block he uses for us 7 1/4LO's? My Mike Miller hats are all made from a pattern of my egg shaped head, they fit perfect. The Gannon was built on one of his standard (?) blocks and fits just as good. In fact, it it sitting on my head right now. I'm wearing it tomorrow.
