I know this thread has moved away from this long ago, but where do I find a quality straw homburg? I want one like David Suchet wears in Poirot. The Sunbody hats and others are all to flimsy and have too little structure. I want a formal straw homburg, and I just can't find one to my liking. Any help?

I'm not familiar with the character you mention but Dobbs has offered a Homburg in Milan in recent yrs.

The company was Ecuadorian Panama Hat Co. started by a man named Elias Israel in the early 1900's. NYC, I believe. Don't think they've been in business for some time. A little information is out there on the web but I haven't researched them but a little. The hats, Panamas and Milans will occasionally pop up on sale sites, though not often. This is the first Homburg I have seen. A little info on them is available on TFL. Perhaps some others here will chime in. It is toquilla straw and some of the finest I have handled, in my admittedly limited experience. A few more pics.

Beautiful! That weave is so fine there must be over a hundred hours in it by a skilled weaver. I'm sure these are not cheap when they come available and I'm okay with that. Somethings are worth the price. Thanks for sharing.

Nice. Unusual to find a bound brim on a Panama, Jared. Mine was sold by Baskin. I know they operated stores in the Chicago area as early as the 1920's.

I like a bound brim, particularly on more formal hats; however, it looks out of place to me on a straw hat, at least with the high contrast. Just my personal preference. I do like the proportions and wouldn't say no if you were looking to give it away.

Based on what I've seen and read, no. The C.E.O. has the brim turned down front and back, usually referred to as an "outback" style.

What's the quality difference between 5X and 6X beaver in new (i.e. HatCo) Stetson westerns? Do you guys like either or both felts? Are they less papery feeling than HatCo Royale quality dress hats? I'm thinking of trying a Pawnee, Carson, Dune, Catera, or the like.

I assumed they didn't do mail orders and there is no way to order online as far as I can tell, but clearly several people here have ordered hats from them. I'm wondering what the process is? Do you call and tell them your hat size and see what they have in stock? Seems like the way to go if you're gonna buy modern Stetsons. Appreciate any help.
