"Propeller Caps" ???I forgot about that.
Sent directly from my mind to yours.
Slow and easy, the leather may be very dry.The stitching holding the sweatband (joining each end of the sweat, not the stitching attaching it to the hat) of a hat I just got is very loose/about to come out.
I would like to stitch it back together rather than sending it off, but was just wondering if there are any tips or links to help me along? I google searched the forum but came up with nothing.
I am planning on using matching colour cotton thread.
Thanks, apart from this, the hat is otherwise in near perfect condition and will post on new hats soon.

but do you have a Panama Hatmaker/Store thread? We even have a "Propeller Caps" thread.
It may be quite a challenge to stitch that bit with the sweatband attached to the hat. You may consider cheating and just putting some fabric tape behind the sweat where it joins.
As Bob says, be careful of the condition of the leather.

Different hatters might have different ways of stitching that seam, but I'd look at my other hats to see how they're stitched and try to replicate that. As long as the leather is viable I'd use the thinnest needle I could find so as not to damage the existing holes, and work slowly, carefully, and patiently until the job was done. This is what it looks like. Leather seems soft. I posted pictures of the rest of the hat in "new hats"...I figure that I gently open the sweatband out and look at how it was stitched then work from there, at least sufficient to close it up until I can get to a proper hatter.
It looks like that band was sewn together with a simple cross stitch that you should be able to duplicate using the existing holes.
Here's a good tutorial: https://highonglue.com/tutorial/hand-sewing-two-leather-pieces-cross-stitch-pattern/
I never leave home without it!Go to Panama Hats Direct.com, Brent Black.com, or Gomezhatcompany.com, among others here. Many other hatters also offer Panama straws. Bring your wallet.
There was good music made in the 7o's.
