quick question to see if anyone is as strange as me ...

do you ever ... say ... on a sunday afternoon when there is not a lot going on... look for errands to run or look for things you need around the house so you can put your hat on and go out ?

I do

In nice weather, I go for a walk. It's good for me. See? Hats are healthy!

I have a pretty big collection of hats from my father-in-law who was born in Europe and lived there until the early 1950s. He had a strong attachment to hats - both fedoras and riding caps -- that continued until his later years in the U.S.

My mother-in-law would like me to find the values of these. After starting with the fedoras and trilbys, I've had good success finding comparable versions and values of the two Dobb's. But, not so much luck finding other makers or comparable hats. Has anyone owned or heard of Witzig's, Windsor and an "Otto Mann" hat from Collins in Austria? I also have Knox NY with a small, round black label.

Also, are there any specialists in vintage men's hats in the Southeastern U.S? I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount for an appraisal from a certified appraiser.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Being LAZY, I just wear my hat around the house doing my best to match it with my PJ's!

Welcome to the Lounge.I think you'll find a number of members here who are well versed in hats/hat values. They will need pictures and other details to assist.

nice

how do you recommend I cover it ?

You need to get some grosgrain that closely matches your ribbon and trolley string. Cut out a circle per the instructions and press it into the button. I figure gray should be easy to find. Or you could get adventurous and try a contrasting color. Black works, too.

Perhaps Otto Matt? I know of only one other posted here:

If you post some photographs we can comment more usefully. Value is likely to be modest enough not to require a professional appraisal unless there is a historic provenance attached. A look through completed sales on eBay will give you some sense of the range in prices.

it is a fedora ... possibly a mink Stratoliner ?

just bashed into what looks to be a teardrop and worn with the brim up

could possibly be an Akubra as well ??

the hat Pink is wearing gives me an Akubra vibe .... is that Pink ?

Two inquiries re fedora brim widths:

-What was the width of the fedoras Bogey wore? 2 1/2? or less?

-Is the new version of the Stetson Whippet considered a hipster/stingy brim fedora because the brim width is 2 3/8"? Or. was 2 /38" perhaps the Bogart brim width?

Thanks!

Yeah its Pink And City and colour. I was aware it was a fedora, but I've never seen that shape before. Thanks.
