Hello,

short question: I want to order an Akubra Fed IV. I have got the sice 59 or 7 3/8. What size should I take? Does the hat come a little bit smaller or doesn't it matter?

Thanks!

I am 23 inches/59 cm/ 7 3/8. I bought a Fed IV in a size 59. It started out a touch big. I'm a long oval, and the Fed IV, like most hats today, is a standard oval so I had all the extra room on the sides. But sizing tape and a bunch of sweating shrunk it down perfectly.

Never mind about the 6x v 10x question...I ended up with a used 20x from the 80's. Nice! And I don't have to worry about rain or anything else...

Borsalino Fedora from Ahrans MileChai.com

I was wondering if anyone could help me find more info on the Borsalino black fedora from MileChai. I think it is a Bellini but I'm not sure. The site has a nice lady describing the hat but she doesn't go into much detail. The under side of the hat is not shown and I am curious to know if the hat has a nice silk liner. As far as the felt material, I would like to know exactly what material is used.

What type of tape is used on a sweatband that is not sewed together but taped together at the ends? Can this tape still be bought somewhere? Thanks.

Have any of the esteemed gents on the hat forum ever had any dealings with this site:
http://www.panamahatmall.com/panama...h=4538_4812&osCsid=67nog4uoebmf32aimt6tjhkjn2

I was browsing their selection and they seem to have some very handsome panamas for quite affordable prices, so I was thinking of investing in one. I wanted to see if anyone had dealt with them, if they're legit or not, etc. Any advice is much appreciated, thanks!

I am a 58+ and both my Fed IV are 59.
The older one fits perfectly. The newly received one needs pieces of foam under the sweat band but that won't last, we just need a couple of showers.
The felt will also get a lot softer.

However I did not get the higher quality felt because I was afraid it would not shrink quite as much. and because the "Imperial" quality is already excellent for what is a daily wearer for me.

what is the simplest photo hosting site to use that doesn't load a bunch of spyware on to the computer?

I have windows xp home. If that matters.

I'm a 7 3/8 Long Oval and the Akubra's in size 59 fit me great. They seem to be slightly larger than most US hats in 7 3/8ths because they are usually a bit tight on me. The Akubra size 59 fits perfectly though. The more you wear it the better the fit too.

Like a brick and mortar store?

Unless you have a real big hat shop, you're unlikely to find any, just because there's not a lot of open crowned hats being made right now to begin with. Off hand I can only think of the Borso Alessandria and Akubra Fed IV. The former might be available in a well stocked store, but the latter is only available from Hatsdirect.com

Ribbon/bow question

Recently my FP bow loop came a little undone, so I removed it and attempted to replace it using the loose thread. My sewing skills are... well they suck. And after I put it back on I noticed that I had done it upside down-- so that the overlap is facing the wrong way. I'm not sure it's really a problem, but I can't find any loops on other hats that are overlapped the upside down way.

So-- my main question is: is there a reason that the folded loop always tends to overlap the same way, either practical or cosmetic??
