OK guys, I've got a hat related question, here. If I'm after a narrow brim trilby/fedora in this particular style:
Will this hat, the Sportsman by Christy's of London be a reasonably accurate facsimile of Sean Connery's hat? I'd like your opinion on that, as I may be ordering a hat today.
The main reason I'm considering the Christy's, is that it's got the looks, if just a bit wider in the ribbon, and I cannot afford the actual hat supposedly worn by Connery in the films, the Lock & Co. Hatters Sandown trilby.

Yes, I think it's a nice one in that scene, and I'm pretty sure it's basically the same hat (maybe a couple of other different colors?) throughout the first four or five Bond films. I'm almost certain I could pull off the narrow-brim trilby look, and I've always liked James Bond's hats, whenever he actually did wear one.

Not bad I'd consider The Racing Hat from Bates as well (half the price of the Lock and has the right ribbon).
IIRC the Lock hats and the Bates hats are actually made in the same factory.

Wow, thanks. That's one brand I didn't look into yet. Unfortunately, they're a bit more out of my price range than I feel comfortable at the moment. I might just go with the Christy's. It's still close enough to the Bond hat, no? I wish they offered that particular Bates hat in a darker, almost black or charcoal looking brown color, though.

I think the Christy's s very close, especially in crown shape.
The Bates is actually darker than depicted - much closer to the Lock one than the picture may infer. It is not a dark brown though.
I'd go with Christy's.

This question I am sure, as been asked plenty of times, but I havn't found much. Today, I was trying to restore/clean and reshape an old Beaver brand felt cowboy hat which I had given my dad for Christmas, close to 40 yrs ago. The felt is in good shape, but the sweat band has fell apart on me. It's torn badly, and a section has even fell out of the hat.
This was a pretty nice old hat with a pencil rolled edge on the sides. I don't know the quality, but I remember giving about $20 something for it, back in the about 73 or so from an old drygoods store that has long been out of business.
I am considering either attempting to sew in a sweatband from an old hat that I have, or sending it to some one to do, but I don't want to get a fortune in it, as I don't know how much my Dad will even wear it, nowdays, but he might. What could I expect to pay for a new sweatband installed and resized to the original size 7? I think it has shrunk a little, and is too small for him at this time, but a 7 1/8 is definately too big for him.
Who should I consider sending this hat to, to get this done?

I'm pretty sure regular oval is the standard everywhere. It's even harder to come across long oval or wide oval and such.

Regular oval may be the norm in Fedoras, and other dress hats, but the Long Oval seems to be the most common in cowboy hats, at least that has been my experience, when hat shoping.

Which is older, the whippet logo on the inner liner or the inner sweatband? And around when did it change from one to the other? And where does the whippet rank in the stetson hierarchy as opposed to, say, the open road? Thanks; and, yes, I just got my first whippet for $12 (the one w/ the sweatband logo). It seems kind of flimsy and the fur of not the greatest quality, but I've read elsewhere the whippet is highly regarded. Your thoughts?
