because this is where questions go ... and get answered

no need to start a thread for every question a person has so this area is designated for that

it really is a much better situation and they get answered faster

Except that here it all gets mixed up and it's hard to track down the replies which are addressing your question. It is also harder for those trying to help to see new questions. All the while taking up the same amount of server. I don't see the advantage.

My question also got answered just fine in ist own thread.

just the way it goes ... it's not going to stay as its own thread ... sorry

imagine what this place would look like if every time someone had a question they started their own thread ...

you can take it up with the bartenders if it means that much to you ... not sure it will make any sort of difference because they will just tell you exactly what I just did ... and this thread works just fine for everyone else so...

oh ... welcome to the jungle

"Linea Augusta" Borsalino

Does anyone know about this label - is it an off shoot from Borsalino? Nothing comes up in the search:

how come everything australian seems to be less expensive than hats direct, or am i missing something?
I personally feel its because of custom orders.
"Back in the day" Akubra would produce whatever hat you wanted in whatever colour you wanted. You just had to wait until they were doing that colour again to have your hat made. So you just had to wait up to three months for your new hat. The new policy is - they don't do that. If its not a standard hat in "that models" standard colour option, they just don't make it. Unless you order an entire batch of them. Well Hatsdirect still orders batches of custom hats when there is enough interest. Example? How about the Campdraft in Bluegrass green? or Cedar Brown, or maybe the Federation. So it probably cost more to produce and they bump the prices up accordingly.
Thoughts? Sounds about right?
That's what I think anyway.

Everything Australian has always (well, for the 15+ years I've been watching) been less expensive than Hats Direct for Akubras.

EA is clearly going on a lower profit margin for Akubras, maybe because hats aren't their main line and they don't have to make as much on them? Or maybe they have a lot lower store rent and overhead costs where they are? And maintaining a lot less stock than HD means less outlays tied up in assets. (As one of my friends once said of B&H Photo-Video, "Yeah, their prices are higher than other photo dealers... but it's worth it, because they keep virtually ANYTHING YOU COULD EVER WANT in stock all the time.")

Just guessing here...

One Too Many
My limited experience (4 orders) suggests better service (& boxes !) from Hats Direct.

(Thanks Naomi & Trudi)

I guess this place would look just like any other normal forum on the planet. :)

But I digress. I have my foot in the door anyway.

pretty sure the idea is to avoid just that

So it's just to be different?

And if all the questions need to go in a single thread, why have a whole forum? What is the rest of the forums for if not for questions? Just for people to pat each other on the back? It makes no sense.

no sir ... to be organized and retain some sense of structure

as for your second question ... you seem like a bright fella
figure it out
sometimes it takes folks more than 3 days to get the gist of how things work around here

keep in mind that you are not required to stay if you don't like the way things are run ... though we would enjoy your input

Could we launch another round of Fedora Lounge Akubra CD's with the 2.5 inch brim as some of you did a few years ago then if we have enough interest for a minimum order?

Hat care question:

Are those long handled narrow curved hat brushes crucial or would a rectangular one work as long as its horse hair?

I'm looking to get a brush for my coats as well and would prefer something that could double duty.

Also, the felt in my crown is really soft and a little fuzzy in areas where it creased a lot. Is there a good way to smooth it out without using sandpaper on it? Can I smooth it with a piece of polished bone while steaming?
Asked and answered previously. So I'll be duplicitous...
Maybe moisten with some distilled water and lightly brush with an "orange" hat sponge.
