After a fruitless search for a suitable cravat for a fast approaching party I have resolved to attempt to make my own, as a temporary solution. What I am finding difficult to locate however is any form of pattern or dimensions for a Day Cravat similar to the one pictured. Any help you all can provide will be most appreciated.

Samuel.

Ah yes, the Ascot! That?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a photo of me wearing my 40?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Ascot with a vintage outfit proper for the Ascot. To answer your question, it was worn by lots of Hollywood stars such as Fred Astaire, Cary Grant and many more off the set. It was a popular casual sport item worn in the late 30?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s and 40?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s mostly. I know it has a rich history and it goes farther back then that but, it saw lots of use by stars in the 30?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s and 40?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s.

Still here today

Hello Gents,

From my way of thinking since they are still available now then they are still valid for now, although rarely seen, but when you do see them they still look smart! I believe they were still worn commonly through the 50's to 80's, you see them a lot in movies, though their popularity has decreased. I was watching 9 to 5 the other day and one of the men was wearing one with a blazer and it looked really great, but the character was fairly conservative, something that is rare these days. I guess these days I mainly see them on older men, I have a few myself and have worn them in theatrical events etc. Who knows I might one day pluck up the courage and wear one when not in a theatrical event! Men dress differently here in Australia, and sometimes it is hard enough to get a man to wear a tie, let alone an ascot. A couple of years ago an Aussie guy won an Oscar for a Claymation film he made, and he wore an ascot for the ceremony and I remember it provoked a lot of comment, but unfortunately the trend did not catch on.

There is a store here called Tie Rack which I know is in England, not sure about the US, but you can still buy ascots there. When I see one I like I add it to the collection in the hope that they may come back into fashion, well mainstream fashion that is. In the meantime they look great with my vintage suits. I have seen them in some modern photo shoots, and saw this pic of one on modern men forums - I think this looks great even though it is not vintage.

I know it is a modern outfit, but it is good to see some vintage touches to it. The head of the model was already missing in the photo, so I guess he wanted some privacy.

Cheers

This may or may not be of interest, but a small group of ascot enthusiasts have been sharing their ideas/interests at a Yahoo Group called, The Gentlemens Silk Ascot & Cravat Club. Seems a bit silly, but why not.

Here's the address

--Peter (yet another one).

Why is it an age-restricted site? I'm too wary about signing into places like that.

Hey Marty,

I see in your profile you run a custom clothing shop. So do you sell these?

Cheers

Peter

Hi Peter,
I do sell them. I have a few resources for them. The one's in the green box are from a small company out of CA. They're a little smaller then most Ascots. I also have another company out of Canada that we have. They're a larger size Ascot. We don't sell a lot of Ascots. Pocket squares and Braces sell well. We actually sold out of male garters (go fiqure) and we're waiting for more to arrive. I do think Ascots are hip, and more people are starting to look at them.

Sharp, sharp, sharp! that is, inded, the way an ascot should be worn. I have a couple that I wear occasionally. They're very comfortable, especially in hot weather.

I wore one constantly at the Burning Man festival when we went a couple of years ago (a huge, artsy week-long festival in the middle of the Nevada desert, for people who are saying "huh?"). It's an alkalai desert so the dust is very drying; the ascot kept it from getting inside my shirt. I spent the week wearing khakis, a linen shirt, an ascot and a panama (a cheap one!) and felt cool(ish) and comfortable the whole time. (and, yes, I got called Indiana Jones more than a few times so I went to a workshop on how to crack a whip--given by a dominatrix from New York!! I now tell people that when I get comments!)

Details Please

Marty,

Do you have a website at all? What do the ascots cost? Do you have any pics of the larger ascots? Any in stripes?

Sorry for the flood of questions.

Cheers

3PieceSuitGuy,
We don't have a web site. It is however in the making. About the price's of the Ascots. I honestly don't know. They made it onto my selling floor without being priced (it's kind of hard to sell them if they're not priced, Duh). I'll look the price up and send you a private message. I don't think that Mr. MK would want me to post any prices's. I only have one larger Ascot in my inventory. However that can change whenever I want it to. If you have any specific styles, colors or patterns that you would like to see, send me message. I would consider it an honor to help any way I can. Thanks buddy.

Sorry for the size, can't figure out how to shrink it!!

Looks about right to me! Any smaller and I'd have to dig out a magnify glass!;)
