Big man = big hat. Get a tall crown and med. to wide brim. The width you have is fine, a bit wider would be good too.

As for the goatee- looks good to me. I say go with whatever makes you comfortable.

I think you need more crown. The dimensions above the brim need to balance out your face & those whiskers make your face even longer.
Keep the chin whiskers but trim them up some. Brim & band width look good. JMHO

I was a 2 1/2 brim guy and Art suggested 2 3/4 after seeing some pics. I gave one a try and now most of my hats are 2 3/4. I still like the 2 1/2 depending on the style, so mine are split..

I see you are gong to trim the goat, I would have voted for that also.....

This is my first VS hat. Blue Smoke with a Charcoal Band and Gray Accent. Teardrop Crown. A hat that finally fits me. I cant wait to receive my second hat. My sister said that it is the best looking hat I own. Forgive the photo setup, as there is a jar of coins holding it up.

After a number of conversations with Art, testing his patience answering questions, we came up with a hat that I’m very happy with.



All of my custom hats previously have been panamas, and I love to wear them, but this year I’m impatient for the weather to cool so I can wear my new VS.


This hat is basically the Anasazi with a couple of changes. The felt is Sahara with a
2 5/8” brim bound with matching ribbon, the crown ribbon is 16 ligne brown.


I had thought that I wanted a center dent, but went with the diamond crease and I’m glad that I did.


Now, the only problem is, what is next. I really like the Sportaire; I just have to decide which felt and ribbon colors.

Just received my VS Sammy D. I was debating btwn Blue Smoke and Pecan. Chose the Blue Smoke and glad I did. WOW what a great color.

Art said he hurt his hand and wasn't able to work for a few days. He should consider insuring his hands like Betty Grable did those gams!

Isaac, I don't have a Mac B, but I did ask Art to borrow that ribbon idea for a hat he made for me. I'm very pleased with the result:
