Are these socks '30s or '70s or what?...

Had to buy these today at an opp. shop. They're too big for me, darnit (HA! Socks! Darn! Gettit!? I burst me up sometimes) so I'll be offering them for sale in the Classifieds.

But before I do, I hoped Marc or other experienced types could share with me and others just what we're dealing with. They remind me of photos I've seen in posts here about 1930s and 1940s socks. They are fantastic quality. The elastic cuffs still have some life in them.

The printing on the foot reads,
PENNY'S
100% Filament Nylon Body
Mercerized Cotton Top, Heel and Toe
Nylon Reinforced

They are New Old Stock, unworn and with original price tag of 69 cents still attached. I just can't figure out if the printing on the price tag is early computer or much earlier typewriter or stamp technology.

I'll probably ask $10 shipped, but what say you about age, value, etc.?

These are difficult to date with accuracy. This kind of sock was made from the 1930s through the '50s (and, to a much smaller extent, the '60s and early '70s). Based on the style of lettering, I'd guess 1950s.

Based on sock design, price tag lettering, staple on price tag, and price itself, I would venture early '50s. (69 cents at that time would be about $5.50 now, so that seems reasonable.)

Wide Brim~ I say 70's reason being...most of the 30's stuff #1 didn't have this type of a "tag" on them they were incased behind a counter where a clerk would stand offering you a "hand" with your dicession making!it was called customer service a thing most places don't teach their "assocates" now days!
but...........give me a day or two & I'll do some research for you & let you know .More than likely I still stick to my original oppinion of "70's".

I'd say 50's too because of the nylon. They began using it in the 40's so it could be that too. Most likely mid-to-late 40's and 50's.

Because J.C. Penney's began to use "Penney's" on their labels in the 50's instead of "JC Penney's," and because of the nylon fabric and stitching on the label, I'd venture a guess of the 1950's/1960's. Great looking socks!

Correction:1950's not '70's

Agreed that pretty much '50's did the DuPonte Research & shore 'nuf 1939 was when the scientist developed "Nylon" however they gave a description of the "weave" the "knit was simular to the discription from the '50's.The pattern would be '50's as well! WideBrim was correct!
