Anyone know anything about this hatmaker Daquino?

Thanks 89. I requested what I would call a quintessentially American style, so it'll be interesting to see how she does with that.

I haven't seen it confirmed, but being in Lisbon I would think Luisa is getting hat bodies from FEPSA. That would certainly explain why the felt is softer and finer than in a lot of modern production hats.

Pictures as promised.

First 2 show the hat straight from the shipping box.

Here are some shots after a quick shape session (dry, no steam).

Quality of the felt is very impressive...soft but easily shaped. No issues with the ribbon, sweat, and stitching. Styling is just not what I was looking for, too much taper and not enough crown height for my liking. Hopefully there are some other size 8's out on the bay who might enjoy it.

Thanks for posting those. May I ask: did you ask for a specific crown height (I did) and just didn't get it? Or was your request more general and the crown height wasn't what you were expecting?

Small update: I can confirm that Luisa does buy her felts from FEPSA. Hat isn't ready yet so I can't comment as to that, but I will say her service and communication has been excellent.

Enzo,

Would you mind elaborating a bit on the specs you gave her? I'm interested in your definition of an "American" style, and suspect I may seek something similar:

~5" crown, either request a C-crown bash or open crown and I'll bash myself. Did she indicate what the open crown height was?
Proportional width brim 2 5/8" - 2 3/8" (sorta like a Temple).
Plus color/ribbon combo.

Never ordered anything close to custom before and I kind of want to get it right!

Thanks in advance.

Think a classic 40's Stetson or competitor - open crown slightly over 5" (I did request a specific bash), 2 5/8" brim. I showed her some pics of what I wanted, and gave her my first and second choices for ribbon color and width. Luisa is very flexible about specific requests. I'll go into even more detail when I post pics of the actual hat.

Pbekkerh - I wouldn't think this is going to be a crushable hat.

Well, it shipped - with a surprise change I'll talk about when it arrives. I have no idea how long it'll take to get to Japan from Portugal, but I'm intensely curious to say the least. Pics when it gets here.

Heck, Enzo, I'm as curious as you. I sent an email two days ago with my "particulars," and am awaiting a response. I'm sitting in Ohio; Blakjack's hat took three weeks from order to delivery in Illinois, and 89quattro from 1/31 to 2/18. So it looks like a three week lag to get to the US.

And a surprise? You're going to keep us on eggshells, aren't you?

Sorry for that but...
It depends on the service used. My Akubra took 4 weeks from Australia but it was a cheap postal service without international tracking (I only knew it had exited Australia). Japan is the same zone.

Did you ever buy one from her, Joao? You could have picked it up!

My tracking says "CTT Expresso", which I take to be a large private Portuguese shipping company. We'll see how long it goes, no ETA on the tracking so far.

I did ask Luísa some info on the "Portuguese Hat" but seems she doesn't see facebook much.
CTT Expresso is the service we need to use for international package service.
If you have a tracking number, better to check on http://www.ctt.pt -> http://www.ctt.pt/feapl_2/app/open/objectSearch/objectSearch.jspx
Enter the number and hit the "procurar" button. I do know there was a english version but can't find it now.

Received a reply to my order instructions regarding the desired bash ash after about a week. All seems in order.
