Tango Yankee, I would like to see your entire collection again. You should post the pictures in the new Full hat collection thread.

So would I, Michaelshane!

It will have to wait a little while. Most of it is in hat boxes in the basement, and difficult to get to. One of my post-holidays challenges will be tackling that basement to organize it and make it easier to get to my hats and my weight machine, among other things.

Cheers,
Tom

Interesting... I recently bought a Stetson on ebay described as "sportsman". The styling details are the same with narrow self felt band whip stitching on the top of the band and the edge of the brim. The Stetson uses a very soft heather gray felt. I like the look of it very much. Here is a link to the auction pictures:

The Stetson was called the Tijuana. The ad is posted somewhere.
found it:

Dobbs also made one called the "Gay Blade". Had someone with an old-style, Zorro-esque pointy sword cape etc on the liners/advertisements.

I'm sure everyone's noticed this style of hat in the posters for the new Toy Story film … On the posters down tube stations, the whip stitching around the brim is much more obvious to see.

You bought that from my friends Roberto and Jula. I'm sure it's a real beauty. They have some very fine vintage things, and Roberto loves his hats. I am replying to Alan in Buffalo. I just saw a magazine ad for Knox hats, and they had a similar hat in the 1950's. It seems everyone had their version. I believe that it was the only time that Dobbs one-upped Stetson, which had the Stratoliner and the Whippet at that time. By the way, I got a second one in a Golden Tan that is really nice. It has a shorter brim, which should place it as a mid fifties, just before the brims go really short. It measures out at 2 & 1/2. By the way, excellent snare, Nathan. I think they're magnificent hats!
