Any Non-Alcoholic Bar Drinks?

My wife and I do not drink any alcohol and we were wondering if there are any recepies out there for non-alcoholic vintage Bar drinks, martinies etc.

Any suggestions, sources or recepies will be appreciated very much!

Shirley Temple...

2 parts Ginger Ale
1 part Orange Juice
Splash of Grenadine Syrup
Couple of Maraschino Cherries

You can replace the Ginger Ale with 7-up or omit the O.J.

Flipping thru' my 1917 "Bartender's Companion"...

Here are a few, hope this helps!

AUDITORIUM COOLER
Into large Bar glass squeeze Juice of 1 Lemon.
1 teaspoonful Bar Sugar.
1 bottle Ginger Ale off the ice.
Stir; decorate with Fruit and Berries, Serve.

BLACK COW
Use a large Mixing glass with Lump Ice.
2 jiggers of Cream.
1 bottle Sarsaparilla.
Stir well and serve with Straws.

BOSTON COOLER
1 Lemon Rind in large Bar glass.
3 lumps Ice.
1 bottle Ginger Ale.
1 bottle Sarsaparilla.
Stir and serve.

CIDER EGGNOG
Into a large Bar glass break a fresh Egg.
1 teaspoonful Sugar.
4 lumps Cracked Ice.
Fill up with Sweet Cider.
Shake; strain into tall, thin glass and serve with grated Nutmeg on top.

G.O.P.
Use a large Mixing glass with Lump of Ice.
2 jiggers of Orange Juice.
2 jiggers of Grape Fruit Juice.
Fill with Seltzer Water.
Stir; ornament with Fruit and serve with Straw.

If you don't have real ginger ale you can make an ersatz version with 7Up or Sprite, a splash of cola for color and a few shakes of angostino bitters to taste.

Yep, I guess a good, old-fashioned root beer would be the closest relation to it in the soft drink family...Fun fact: "modern" sarsaparilla is not the same (i.e. not as good) as old-time sarsaparilla because a crucial ingredient in it, sassafras, was found by worrywart FDA to have a compound that possibly had a correlation with cancer in 1 of a million rats, or something. Ergo, fake sassafras flavoring. :(

Or there's the old camp favourite, Rock Shandy:

2 tablespoons of lime juice
3 dashes angustura bitters
Soda water

With plenty of ice in a tall glass.

I think Sharps is also a non-alcoholic beer.
I don't know if this is vintage, but a non-alcoholic bloody mary is really good, and quite easy to make if you buy the bloody mary mix. Just serve it without vodka, add a sprig of celery and your good to go. For some reason I like to drink these when flying.

Oh yeah! They always have the Campbell's Bloody Mary mix! It is really good, I never see it at the grocery or liquor store. [huh] Only on planes... But Spicy V8 is really good too.

Drones- I personally hate the taste of the "near beers" but there is that alternative. Since I can no longer drink I usually just order a 7 Up. It doesn't look real elegant like a drink in a specialized glass but no body can tell it's not got vodka in it...if that's the point one wanted to get across.

I don't drink usually, so I often order a 7up too. It's a good cover up in a world where you can often be questioned as to why you are in a bar and not drinking. Cranberry juice with a lime has this effect too, and is quite good. Virgin Daiquiries or pina coladas or a virgin mudslide can be a yummy treat, but I don't know if they are vintage.

You know what adds to the 7Up disguise? Jack Daniels. Just put a shot or two in there with it and.... oh yeah, forgot the point. :D

Simple and refreshing...

Mix two parts of Hydrogen with one part Oxygen. Stir briskly until the two combine. Pour into a tumbler and drop in a squeezed lemon or lime. Quick, simple, refreshing and non-alcoholic! ;)

For refreshing change, cool some of the H2O to below 32 degrees F. This will temporarily freeze the mixture to a solid. Drop chunks of the solid into the liquid mixture for a chilled version of the above. Very refreshing on a hot summer day! :eusa_clap

More Drinks...

Cool Collins

2 oz. Lemon Juice (Fresh)
1 tsp. Superfine Sugar
7 Mint Leaves
Fill with Sparkling Water

Pour the lemon juice and the sugar in a collins glass. Stir well, then add the mint leaves and crushed them with a bar spoon. Add ice cubes and fill with sparkling water. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and a lemon slice.


Florida Cocktail #2

3 1/2 oz. Grapefruit Juice
1 1/2 oz. Orange Juice
2 oz. Sugar Syrup
1 tbsp. Lemon Juice
Pinch of Salt
Fill with Club Soda

Shake the ingredients -except Club Soda- and strain over crushed ice in white wine glasses. Add 1 oz. of Club Soda to each glass and garnish with mint sprigs.

Pac Man

2 tsp. Lemon Juice
1 tsp. Grenadine
Dash of Bitters
Ginger Ale

Mix over ice in a collins glass and garnish with an orange wheel.

Virgin Sex On The Beach

2 oz. Cranberry Juice
2 oz. Orange Juice
2 oz. Pineapple Juice
2 oz. Peach Juice (Squeezed)

Blend all juices and pour over cubed or crushed ice.

Wavebender

5 oz. Ginger Ale
1 oz. Orange Juice
1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
1 tsp. Grenadine

Shake with ice -except Ginger Ale- and strain over ice cubes into a highball glass. Top with Ginger Ale and stir.

Yellowjacket

2 oz. Pineapple Juice
2 oz. Orange Juice
1/2 oz. Lemon Juice

Shake with ice and strain over ice cubes into an old-fashioned glass. Garnish with a lemon slice.

I gave up alcohol years ago and I've been drinking N/A "malt beverages" ever since. My personal favorite is 'Buckler's' which, 'cept for the alcohol, tastes like beer to me. The are a number of others, which, oddly enough includes 'Odoul's Amber' which is excellent!

I avoid 7-Up and those types of drinks because the 'High Fructose Corn Syrup' levels that make them overly sweet.

Another drink here in the desert that has become popular is the 'Arnold Palmer' (Lemonade & Ice Tea) mixed together. And the old stand-by, 'Cranberry Juice and Club Soda with a squeeze of lemon.'

I do not drink alcohol, and am ever in quest for drinks. Diet Coke does NOT enliven the taste of lobster...

One of my best resources is The Non-alcoholic Drink Bookby Dolores M. Du Nah and H. Jean Groudle, ISBN 0-8007-5178-7.

This little gem has NEVER let me down, and is a treasure of drinks for large groups, ones and twos, and it covers a diverse selection of ingredients from chocolate to clams to asparagus to tamarind to peanut butter and everything in between.

As unlikely as a few of the concoctions in this volume sounds, I have NEVER had a less than fabulous outcome with any drink. I highly recomend the watercress-pinapple beverage.

I give it 5 little umbrellas.
