Any loungers with good vocal chords?

Well thanks. I will settle with making a living. But famous would be fun. Know any swing bands that need a singer? I like singing jazz and standards.

Apparently a lot of things happened while I was cursing at my camera and my internet connection. Here is my contribution, just in case anyone missed it.

I won't be singing anything. just playing. I don't have a voice that's good for public singing!!

Here we are.

I apologise for the quality.

If anyone is daring enough to sing along, the lyrics are below, along with the blurb I wrote for the video:

Written and composed in 1932, "Bei Mir Bistu Shein" was a Jewish showtune originally written in Yiddish. It proved extremely popular and was recorded by many famous artists including Al Bowlly, Benny Goodman, Guy Lombardo, Ella Fitzgerald, the Andrews Sisters, Kate Smith and in more recent times, the incomparable Max Raabe Und Das Palast Orchester. The song was also called "Bei Mir Bist Du Shoen" in German (the title used in this video). Its English title is translated as "To Me, You're Beautiful". Such was the song's popularity that in 1937, the original Jewish songwriter and composer authorised the song's translation into English.

Although highly popular throughout the Western world, the song was banned in Germany during the Nazi era due to its Jewish connections.

Lyrics:

INTRO:

Of all the girls I've known, and I've known some,
Until I first met you, I was lonesome,
But then you came in sight,
And my heart grew light,
And this old world seemed new to me.

You're really swell, I have to admit you...
...Deserve expressions that really fit you,
And so I rack my brain,
Hoping to explain,
All the things that you do to me,

CHORUS:

Bei Mir Bist Du Shoen,
Please let me explain,
Bei Mir Bist Du Shoen,
Means that you're grand!

Again I'll explain,
Bei Mir Bist Du Shoen,
It means you're the fairest in the land!

I could say 'Bella! Bella!', even say 'Wunderbar!',
Each language only helps me tell you,
How grand you are!

I've tried to explain,
Bei Mir Bist Du Shoen,
So kiss me, and say you'll understand!

N.B.: Even though I've used the German translation of the title, 'Shoen' is still pronounced as 'Shein' (to rhyme with 'rain') in order to fit into the song.

Also, this is done entirely without sheet-music. I played-by-ear the entire song. It took me about three days to pick out all the notes and chords.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys.

Now, I'm trying to pick out the other Raabe hit, "Heute Nacht oder Nie" [Trans.: 'Tonight or Never'] on the piano.

So far, I've figured out it's in D Major...that's all!

I sing and perform regularly, vocals and bass guitar. But I'm in a funk/soul/RnB original band. Not exactly lounge material BUT I did do a wedding once where I had to cover a couple of Sinatra tunes. Harder work than I ever thought it would be.

So, I just had my senior recital last night. In addition to a bunch of more serious stuff, I did manage to put in something a bit more fun. Tell me what you think.

My translation isn't very good English, but it does convey the meaning. So, here it is.

I’m through with love, once and for all
Show me no more women
Show me no more!
If a thousand hearts I break,
It’s all the same to me
All of womankind -
I write them off.
In my greatest prime
I remove myself
My mind is made up fast
I am through with love.

Yet...
Life without a woman is not a thing
The rose without the sun will never bloom
So here and there, just one more...
I’ll kiss one more
just kiss one more

Life without a woman is not a thing
the rose without the sun with never bloom
So I will not foreswear
I will, girls, hear your cries
Shame on him who breaks his word now!

Many times I have enjoyed being a pair.
however, I lack this skill
This skill I lack!
Many times I’ve been happy to choose any girl
But I stay a Bachelor
Fast, and smart and free
I will not stand a married man
even under the police.
I confess it without shame
I shall never be monogamous!

Life without a woman is not a thing
the rose without the sun with never bloom
So I will not foreswear
I will, girls, hear your cries
Shame on him who breaks his word now!
