a 3x resistol doesn't have any beaver in it, but is a very nice hat. Resistol's 1950s kitten finish hats have a great feeling felt. Why do you say that hat needs a renovation? Looks like 5 minutes of shaping it with a little bit of steam and it'd be good as new.

Deffering to your knowledge, Dman ... why would it say Beaver if there was none at all?

To pass along to you, sure, but it's 2.5 sizes too small for me.
Aah. Makes sense now. I should read before commenting.

The "beaver" in 3x beaver is pretty much just a marketing term to describe the quality of the felt. Most X Beaver ratings on modern cowboy hats are on hats that aren't beaver, either. It just sounds better.

That is a very nice hat. I would rather see you pass it along to someone else than try to stretch it. As you said two and one half is a lot to stretch. If you try and renovate it and make it bigger, it would make the brim shorter. Either way, it sure is a nice hat.:eusa_clap

The difference in price would be staggering. 7 1/8 are pretty easy to come by, while many of us stop just short of murder for a good 7 1/2.

I know ... believe me :eusa_doh:

That's exactly why I considered paying to have this hat resized ... the next "nicest" (in comparison) that I have is a vintage OR, and it feels nothing like this hat.

Vintage ORs vary extremely widely, from the junky Stetson 3x of the 70s to the amazing 7x clear beaver (which was the 5x clear beaver prior to the name change). Keep an eye out, and start saving now. When that perfect OR hits, be ready to put up the big bucks - at least $200, but they've gone for as much as 500.

You'll continue to see fantastic hats in 7 1/4 and under go for pennies on your 7 1/2 dollar, and you'll really curse the guys who are a 7 or under. Take heart in knowing, at least, you're not a 7 5/8. a little dig at DJ :p

My OR is a nice one (though not clear beaver level I am sure), you may have read my lucky story of it coming in an Ebay auction labeled as a Champ ...

But this Kitten finish is sweet.

I've pretty much decided to give this one a loving home and keep my eyes peeled for the next find. Maybe some more kind strangers.
