My lovely wife gave me a gift certificate for an Art Fawcett custom fedora and after a hectic few months, I redeemed it. As everyone already has mentioned, Art is wonderful to work with (thanks for putting up with my indecision, Art!) I received my hat on Friday - and here are the pictures. It is a beautiful work of art and wears so sweetly, it really is tough to take it off.

From the front... I tightened the pinch just a bit with a little steam.

From the side, I love that ribbon treatment!

and finally the crown

The flash from the camera show it a bit lighter than it actually is - it truly is charcoal. Now I'll have to get back in line for another one - I can easily see my armoire filled with a few of these beauties!

Another awesome hat...

I don't think Art does any other kind. Congratulations! :eusa_clap

Gift certificate, you say? Hmmm...

(You wouldn't mind sizing those photos down, would you?)

The gift certificate was awesome and incredibly unique. It was truly special and quite the surprise when I received it.

As for the size of the pictures, not a problem. I forget the camera loves to save 'em big!

Maintcoder, you're not in the Seattle area, are you? I saw someone wearing a gorgeous hat with a wide ribbon like this one at University Village tonight. I would've stopped him to say, "Where'd you get the hat?" but I was busy chasing after my rugrat at the playground. It would just be too weird if I saw you wearing the hat the day you posted about it.

If it wasn't you, then there's someone lurking in Seattle with a killer hat that resembles this one!

Unfortunately, it was not me - I was home in Kent relaxing with a cigar and a nice bottle of cream sherry beside the fountain contemplating life...

I will say I have noticed many fine hats popping up around Seattle lately. Saturday night my wife and I saw 'The Women' at the ACT Theatre (a fabulous presentation!) and stopped by the Union Square Grill with some friends for a night cap. I noticed a gentleman at the bar had what appeared to be a beautiful vintage Stetson Playboy and I wondered if he was a member here too.

Well, part of me is sad not to have taken part in one of those "can you believe it?" coincidences, yet the more rational part of me is happier to know that the fedora-wearing world is that much larger with that mysterious University Village stranger lurking around.

(WAAY off-topic, but maybe the Fedora Lounge needs an equivalent of the "missed connections" personals in so many free newspapers. Can't you just see it? "Me: Newsboy cap, Aero leather jacket, chasing toddler at University Village on Sunday evening. You: Stylish fedora with wide ribbon. Tell me: Where'd you get the hat?")

I can hardly wait for Christmas to open my new hat from Art.
Bob.

So you've decided to show your strength of will and not open it yet, CCB? I have to applaud you for that! :eusa_clap Just be sure to tell us about it the minute you open it.

I agree... CCB must have a will of iron. After I picked up the box at the Post Office, I stared at it for a few minutes and opened it. I then hollered for my wife to come down and take a look as I was going to open the hat box... and the few minutes it took her to come down felt like forever!

Had that been posted for Saturday evening, I might have been able to say "Federation fedora, not all that stylish, but that was probably me!" I was supposed to be seeing a musical but knew I'd doze off (we had a convention in town Friday & Saturday) so I showed up before the show to mingle with everyone and be seen & then headed to U-Village (a trip which included two quad venti white mochas at Starbucks!), and then back just before the end of the show to head out to dinner & drinks with friends in the show. But weird coincidence (or considering your & Maint's posts - weird coincidence two?) was that I did see someone in a newsboy cap chasing and trying to herd two toddlers. I latter saw one of them dead to the world in a chair in Restoration Hardware with exhausted "Dad" standing holding the other while "Mom" shopped.
