I think you kind of hit it there. Some people do not know how to work within a framework though. If you don't want to wear something then wear the loudest and most ostentatious thing you can get. In my case it is that I hate super casual clothes. Forced in cases where I have to wear it, I might go for the loudest Hawaiian shirt I have with seersucker pants. You work within the framework.
Please don't wear a leisure suit to protest the suit though. You are making their point for them there.

Indeed, I've known a lot of people who resented a certain type of clothing merely because they were required to wear it.

On the topics of useless headgear, as an aside, its interesting how popular baseball hats have become, which are truly a worthless type of headgear. Indeed, in this region, there's annual warnings to those who work in rural occupations to wear broadbrimmed hats, less they set themselves up for melanoma, etc. The baseball hat, which has become the default hat of choice, given that its something everybody has one of, is about the worst piece of headgear going.

Even at that, I see people wearing them in the winter, while they freeze, or wearing them with suits, which looks ridiculous.
