Both still look like shawl collars to me - the Simmons is very close to the original Aeromarine - rather than Peter Pan ones, but interesting to see the Cossack with curved pockets, given the photoshop work MM's been doing elsewhere on the boards,. As I said before, aged hides aren't to everybody's taste, but this looks very convincing in the flesh. The biggest effect on the goatskin is to make it very supple (plenty of body, but excellent drape), which I've not encountered before despite having owned many veg tanned goat A-2s and an M-422A. The hide almost has the characteristics of a more durable capeskin.
It's an unlined hide so it creases a little with normal wear - I won't be reaching for the iron anytime soon, save only to press any untucked shirt tails

It reminds me of the whole 'relic' guitar thing that Fender kicked off a few years ago, inspired by a request from Keith Richards to 'break in' some new guitars he had ordered, as they looked and felt 'too new'. You see all sorts of points of view regarding these. Me, I suppose it depends on what you want to achieve - do you want a guitar - or a leather jacket - that looks like a worn (but well cared for - or not, in the case of some more extreme treatment) sixty or seventy year old jacket does now, or do you want it to look like it did back then? The latter is what does it for me, but it's a personal preference thing, really.

I'm with you there on the guitars, Edward. when I got my first "proper" guitar back in the mid 60's (a Kalamazoo-made Epiphone Casino with a Bigsby), if I wasn't playing it, I was polishing it!
And I still do the same.
Jackets though, I tend to prefer to look a little used. Not worn out & abused - but certainly not new looking

Always cracks me up when guys pay out the extra money for a guitar that's been pre-knackered! The really low-level stuff where it just looks a bit broken in is grand with me, though. I like jackets that look just worn in, not worn out.... but I prefer to get them there myself. I guess I'm maybe not such a one for instant gratification after all.

I'm with Edward. I like a jacket to look as it would have done at the time, and for the age to come with use and not someone 'time wearing' it artificially. When I was young the first thing I did with new leather jackets and jeans was to kick them down the street a bit and get some wear into them. But nowadays I like them to be a bit smarter. Not stiff and brand new but not but not worn out either.
When you see pictures of these jackets from the time they usually look well cared for and not distressed. It's only the military issue ones which the owner perhaps felt the need to aggressively break in. Almost certainly to try to avoid looking like a new boy.
It's something which jars in TV drama too where you see well off people dressed in very old distressed leather coats which the characters they are playing would not have been seen dead in, and would have given away long ago.
