Does anyone have anymore pictures of reworked Stylemasters? I'm interested in what you can do with non-open crowns.[/QUOTE]

Every time I steam & brush my hats I change the shape a bit..
As long as the sweatband is kept away from steam you can't go wrong - try it, change it, tweak it :
This is Acorn Fawn but a beige background made it photograph green !

As others mentioned, the stylemaster is too low (not to mention the taper) for my liking too. However it's a nice hat and I bought a couple for my girlfriend. This one just arrived. The color is burgundy and the felt surprisingly soft and malleable (none of mine is like that). This one takes dry creases in a breeze

I received my Carbon Gray Akubra Stylemaster that I ordered from David Morgan. Their shipping time is amazing. I ordered it on Sunday night and received it on Wednesday at noon time. That’s very good seeing that David Morgan is in Washington state and I live in South Carolina.

This is my second Akubra and I’m very pleased with everything about the hat. If I had one thing I would change, I’d make the Stylemaster available in an open crown. I like the C crown but I much prefer a diamond bash. So I am going to change it soon.

The color is a dark gray and displays much lighter outside. It is just the color that I wanted to replace a less expensive wool hat that was fading. Here are some comparison photos of my faded wool Silver Creek next to the Stylemaster.

I know I can flatten/straighten out my thin-ribbons with a wet finger. You might try a bit of water and see if you can smooth it out with your fingertip. I'm grasping at straws here, but since no else has provided a fix, I thought I'd chime-in.

My style master ribbon is getting slightly dogeared. How can I fix it? I stored it upside on a foam ring inside of my akubra coober pedy during the hot months. It's cold now and I just got it out and noticed it.
Be careful spritzing with water as it can leave a water mark on the ribbon. If you have a hand held clothes steamer give it a gentle shot of steam...running the steamer around the ribbon a few times ....do not linger in one spot for too long. The steam will straigthen out the worst of the wrinkles.

A more involved but not difficult step is to remove the bow...it should be separate from the ribbon. Then snip the tack stictch(es) at the top of each end of the ribbon to release it from the hat ....pull the top leading edge of the ribbon more taut to take up the slack then drop in another tack stitch. Do this on the other end of the ribbon and that should take up all the slack. Then tack the bow back on. The liner is just glued in and should come apart easily where the bow is located. Use double sided tape to tack the liner back down.

It's sewn in. I'd probably destroy the hat. How much would a hatter charge? It's not that bad at the moment, but if it gets noticably worse I will change it. Probably be my last winter wearing it anyway. I'm going to upgrade to a larger brim with the akubra leisure time

If you remove the ribbon make sure you swirl it before you sew it back on. Swirling will keep the top edge tight to the felt. As an aside, avoid stacking your hats to keep this from happening.

Depends totally on which hatter you talk to and where you live. Shipping two ways would make it pretty costly so I would stay local if at all possible. I have cowboy hat shop that charges a 10 spot but I would expect many places would the 25 or more to change the ribbon. I second the steam idea. Otherwise just claim it's a vintage hat with some character.

I just received a new Akubra Stylemaster. I am not used to breaking in a new hat. Does it take time to feel right on your head and not so stiff?
Not sure what you mean by 'feel right'. I have lots of hats, very stiff to very soft and if the hat is the correct size/fit they feel right regardless. It is hard to state definitively if they may soften up with use.....some will, some won't. It depends on the felt quality and the amount of stiffener in the felt.

It could be that you are more of a LongOval and Akubras are more Reg Oval in shape. Is the hat your size yet feels tight? Is there a slight gap at the temples? If that is the case then with prolonged wearing you may get the leather sweat to conform more closely to your head shape
