Amen to that! As far as someone depending upon some article or "rules" regarding the limits of fashion, I have to wonder why anyone would desire to live upon what someone else would write? I can find a book that may say it is great to eat a fly from a dead cow's behind, you would not find me in the desire of doing so. If you like what you wear then wear it. If you like bright clothing color, what it the point in not wearing it if you like it? Being well dressed is not always predicted by what anyone else says or does, but upon how it fits you and does it look presentable.Keep wearing them. The no white after labour day is only a guideline as far as I am concerned. As long as the weather is decent I would keep wearing them.
It used to be customary in some circles to snatch the straw hat from the head of any man caught wearing one after Labor Day and to smash it before his eyes. Think about that the next time you tradition-flouters venture out wearing a boater in September.
Now of course, I would not approve of someone wearing spandex hot pants to a funeral...
This rule is claptrap coming out of the eastern US where they are unable to wear summer clothes in the winter. It should be common sense for them.
Like they are wearing three piece suits in Hawaii during the winter
You'd be surprised. I've seen people staggering around in cargo shorts and tank tops in January. Frostbite of the brain.
Hey I do that sometimes... yah know it can get chilly here in January...
I think that winter time is when we really need a splash of color to combat the greys, blahs, and general drearyness of winter.
That does happen often here in Michigan. I will see someone wearing basket ball shorts and a winter coat. It makes me wonder if that is all they own? You'd be surprised. I've seen people staggering around in cargo shorts and tank tops in January. Frostbite of the brain.
A white suit would be a hard one to wear if it is really winter around my area,(snow and slush = bad salt stains and road grime) as it would not stay clean very much. I have worn a cream colored heavy silk older Lanvin suit with a black top coat a few times in the winter but that was only to special functions I attended and would not make a regular practice of it.Has anyone here yet mentioned 'winter white'? It's worn by women throughout the chilly season. Does the 'concept' exist for men too?
Here in San Francisco, it is only after Labor Day that we get anything resembling Summer weather. It has been foggy, cool, and grey for most of the past three months, with maybe a bit of sun in the afternoon. Actually, most of Northern California has been having a cool summer. Sacramento hasn't hit 100 degrees F all summer. Today is the first day San Francisco might hit 80 degrees. Time to break out the linen suits.
The flip flops in the snow gives a entire new meaning to the term, "toe jam"...I like to dress for the weather. So if it is 85 degrees out, I really don't care if it is Feb. I'm wearing something cool. Likewise, if it is freezing and there is snow falling from the sky, I don't care if it is June. I'm pulling out a wool skirt.
I've seen young people in flip flops in the snow. They say that their feet dry faster. I think I'd die of the cold.
