Aero Vintage HH vs Aero Regular HH

I have seen the threads showing the two types of horsehide together and I don't see all that much difference in the look in the long run. Aero vintage leather jackets seem to age like regular FQHH only they have a head start.

So, for those of you who have both, what are the differences, or rather, is there any advantage to going with the regular FQHH? Does the FQHH develop a more realistic graininess while the vintage looks artificially broken in?

I have a vague recollection of HoosierDaddy having reported on that same question as he has broken in both types. HD are can you serenade us with a second stanza?

The Vintage FQHH is more relaxed and somewhat lighter weight from the git-go. It also has it's own grainy and pebbly patterns that are very nice. The regular FFQHH is heavier and stiffer when new..but developes a more 'marbled' grainy effect as it is broken in. There is a noticable difference.

Any experience with the medium weight HH vs FQHH?
I saw a used 50's HB on Aero's used jacket page that is stated as medium weight HH(photo of tags shows Steerhide label tho).
I have a 50's HB that is FQHH. Aero's is 44 with zip sleaves. Mine is 42 & storm cuffed. Was thinking of asking about a possible trade...

I've got jackets in both the heavy front quarter and the medium weight horse and the two hides could not be more different. Medium weight horse has a spray painted look to the finish, nothing like the waxy, translucent look of the heavy front quarter. If you can stand a hefty jacket, I would go with the heavy front quarter every time.

The only other HH that seemed to break-in like the FQHH was once what Aero called 'shaved' HH. It was heavier than A2 weight HH..but less than normal FQHH. However..since it was shaved from regular FQHH it seemed to have much of the same properties and develope similar graining(marbling).

I own a mid-weight horsehide Highwayman and the leather is really nice. It may not be FQHH, but it is somewhat thick. Unlike the FQHH, it looks very clean, shiny, durable and elegant. It's less rough and tumble and more fancy. it doesn't crease up and break in as much as the FQHH does. But it's still a very nice leather. Depending what you want, you could say it holds up better than the FQHH for the very reason that it doesn't break in all that easily.
