Aero side adjuster strap wear

I just noticed this on my Bootlegger:

On one side, there's a notch eaten out of the strap, and on the other side, it looks like the strap was cut short, at an angle, and the stitching has begun to fray.

I don't plan on doing anything about it unless it gets worse, but I'm wondering if this is typical of Aero designs with side adjusters. I didn't buy this jacket new, but didn't notice the flaws until now. I'm sure they must have been there since I bought it.

It's otherwise a beautiful Bootlegger, in some kind of brown tumbled oil pull horsehide, and fits me very well. .

Doesn't look like normal wear to me, more like something has been nibbling on it!

How old is this jacket? The holes in the stitching look huge also...........Bet Aero could put new straps on it . The leather does look nice!! Probably mice or rats got at it wherever it was stored. Looks like another candidate for the Classifieds......

I don't know. I'm not the original owner.

That's been chewed on by something. Take it to a cobbler and have them clip it at a clean angle and stitch it. Problem solved.

Yep, the mice have been at that jacket. I had the same thing happen to a nice pair boots years ago.

I'm doubtful of that. Why would mice chew ONLY on these straps, and nowhere else on the jacket? That makes no sense.

The one side could look like it's been chewed on, but it also looks like it could have been worn by the buckle, if it was cinched tighter at one time, and got pinched in the buckle.

I'd expect that straps that were over-tightened could wear/tear prematurely.

The other side, to me, looks like it broke/tore, and was re-cut, deliberately, at an angle.

If I did get it repaired, I'd worry about matching the new leather to the old. I'm not sure it could be done easily.

I reckon it's been chewed. You could ask the same question about moths chewing through a wool jumper: why do they nibble random holes and not start at one point and work its way methodically across the top?

But BOTH sides? Really? The one side does look more like it could have been chewed on by an animal, but the other side, I'm fairly certain, was cut, to make it easy to thread through the buckle, after breaking.

I agree, the second one looks as though it's been cut, or worn from use. I can't think of any situation where I'd take it upon myself to take a knife to my Aeros!

If you don't need the full length of the straps just have the shitty end cut off and have it sewn back up by a cobbler or decent tailor. No need to match anything, just remove the nibbled bits and start fresh with shorter straps.
