Aero relaunch of Brando On The Waterfront jacket

I have noticed with great excitement that Aero has announced a relaunch of their On The Waterfront style on facebook. They posted a re-coloured pic of Brando along with the announcement (I think the same one that was recently posted here in another thread). The new jackets will come in black/red as in the movie. They don't say anything about also bringing back the black/green version but I really hope they are going to.

I own a size 44 On The Waterfront Reversible Wool/Leather in Black/Green which I bought from their Sales Page and I love the woolside of it, I actually often wished I had the wool-only version of it (the reversible is a bit unpractical), unsuccessfully tried to buy one here in the Classifieds, too. It's a very comfortable and practical style with the patch pockets, the stud buttons and the wool knits. Wearing it always feels a bit like wearing my Levis jeansjacket but socially more acceptable at work. Anyway, I am looking forward to the re-release of the style and will certainly pick one up!

I'd like a Highwayman in the red/black wool. Gone off knit cuffs as I have got older though they are fine on A2s

A Highwayman-ish wool jacket sounds like a cool thing to have, too. I like buttons on wool jackets better though. A woolen Aeromarine with that shawl collar would be killer.

If it's not more than 350, I am fine. Wool jacket for half the price of leather sounds reasonable to me. At least that's how I usually set my limits when I shop no -leather jackets. Given Aeros rising popularity over the years, same 280 as back then is probably wishful thinking, though.

Yeah, probably wishful thinking but I will for sure order one at 350. I like wool jackets that are styled on classic leather jackets. Cushman from Japan have made some limited edition beauties.

The way the release was worded, it hinted at other styles as well.

Do we know if there are any new leather styles coming through ?

If it's around the 350 mark, I'd check it out too. Might make for an interesting winter jacket!

As to my reply as well on Facebook, I'm glad they aligned the pocket patterns...that is one thing that makes me hate these jackets otherwise! This one looks great...

I like this jacket in general, but I noticed few things that is different from the one in film. I hope Aero can get these right in the future.

First, zipper, check the pic below, the one in film looks like a talon m45.

Also, the jacket in the film is unlined, check the pic below:

That's well spotted. A lot of early woollen work style jackets were unlined. I have one Cushman repro that is like this. I guess it should be an option especially if maximum authenticity is desired. Most new buyers would likely prefer theirs lined though. Correcting the zipper pull is an easy fix.

The plaid on the pockets of Brandos jacket was offset as well ( not lined up like the new Aero version ) in fact very few lines in the plaid match at all ... even the front zipper arrangement is slightly off .... these were not delicately crafted artisan jackets .. they were thrown together .. function over fashion.

It will be interesting to see the fit as the Waterfront jacket was really quite short and cropped almost ..... it's also quite fitted and not like a baseball / letterman jacket ... this isn't a "Blouson" it's a workman jacket .... I'd still have an "old Aero" reversible "Waterman" in a 42" in the red and black ..... two jackets in one ... the original BOGOF :)

The original has a two piece back as well and the check pattern appears smaller.

I don't mind changes to the original where they are improvements and as such I see the adjusted pattern and the one-piece back. You wouldn't want messed up stitching, as the original surely had, either, would you?
