Well done, Rudie! I have never previously considered ordering a jacket from Aero, but I could go for something like that.

Interesting comment. Why is that - the patterns available or the quality of the leather?

as well as a new source for a superb goatskin that would both work beautifully for this style.

Hi Rudie, your new jacket looks very good in these pictures. But I can't form a solid opinion until I can see it on your back. I agree with the others that the collar is the only real bone of contention.

But anyhow, this new goatskin you mention sounds very promising, I'm intrigued. Any more details on that? Colour, weight, origin, tanning etc

All the best

Patience, please. We have 30°C here.

I have no more info on the goatskin, I just took Ken's word for it. Knowing the present goatskin I am sure it will be spectacular. Actually, I thought the mid weight horse would be about as light as the goat, but it is still thicker. I think maybe seal goatskin would have been a better choice for this pattern. With the low buttoning collar it is essentially a jacket for warmer days, so a lighter leather would be much better.

I thought mid weight horse is 2.25 - 2.5 oz, the same as goat. Maybe HH is denser and heavier even when it is the same thickness at goat. It has me curious because I'm contemplating a new jacket in mid weight HH.

Beautifully designed jacket. I hope Aero can find the dark suede color you often see in the old jackets (as in several of Dinerman's photos). My uncle gave me one something like that when I was in school, and after a few years the wear-points didn't fade, as with leathers, but darkened and looked more like leather. It's a great effect.

It is certainly thicker. It is very obvious when comparing the collar thickness. At Ken's proposal I asked for the thinnest hides available. I expected it to be about the same thickness as the goat, but that's not the case.

Rudie that's very interesting. I'll need to explore this further as I was certain the HH was thinner and lighter.

Here's a comparison between the goat and the seal jerky.

Regarding the collar: It is not as large as it seems. It's mostly a matter of perspective. It looks different as the jacket is worn open collared. But compared to the collar of my 30s halfbelt there is not a big difference.

Here it is buttoned up. Completely normal collar, very much not 1970s.

Cool photos, Rudie. Not sure if you can definitively judge the actual thickness from them. The thicker cross section shown where it bends may simply be that the leather in this example folds thicker. Leathers don't all behave the same when folded or otherwise.

Thanks.

It is consistent on the whole collar, in fact, the whole jacket. Wherever I fold the leather the goat looks and feels thinner and more pliable. The sample I had looked thinner. BTW, the thinnest and softest sample I had was the new Maine HH. I didn't like the color, though.

I don't think I'll ever need another leather jacket, because I have two really awesome pieces. Having had jackets in Chromexcel FQHH, jerky seal and goat I would hands down recommend goat over all the other hides. As much as I like how the brown Chromexcel ages I find it too heavy and stiff. The jerky HH isn't nearly as comfortable as well. The goat is comfortable right out of the box, no breaking in needed, light yet substantial, forms perfectly to your body and develops a lot of character over time. I hope the jerky HH gets as comfortable after breaking in.

Congratulations Rudie that is the nicest jacket I have seen on this site in ages. I have been searching for an ideal jacket for yonks and that one just about nails it for me. Combined with your other jacket styles you will have any future style direction covered as you and your jackets get older. Forget about the collar - it is perfect for the look and style of the jacket.

Well done - I am very green with envy.

Rudie,
That is beautiful and the contrast of the buttons against the hide is really nice. I do have to say that you appear to have the longest arms I've ever seen! Do you even have to bend over to tie your shoes? :D
