Hello everyone, I'm very happy to present my new Aero Leather jacket: a PHM model in CXL Steer.
I wanted to talk about it here, because I feel like there's a bigger hype around horsehide than steerhide within the community.
I'm lucky enough to live fairly close to an Aero Leather partner store, which offers custom orders as well as a great selection of ready-to-wear jackets in almost every leather type possible.
So, I was able to try on and thoroughly compare both leathers. Visually, steerhide and horsehide are extremely close in aspect and color. However, in terms of stiffness, steerhide is really more supple, while also being thicker.
In the photos you see, I had been wearing the jacket for barely an hour, and it had already started to soften up very quickly.
As I'm writing this, it's been a week since I received it. I've had to wear it for about 30 minutes a day — it's still a bit too warm here for this type of jacket!
Despite that, it has already broken in and molded nicely, even though there's still some work to do.
I'm actually quite surprised by how quickly it conforms to my body and loses its initial stiffness.
As for the color, this black is truly deep and very close to the horsehide version.
I completely fell in love with this shade when I saw the same leather in horse. I'd be thrilled to chat with you, show you how the jacket evolves over time, or discuss it with anyone hesitating to take the plunge for steerhide instead of horse!
Please excuse my English if it's a bit rough, I'm French.
