Aero Leather - Half Belt

Thanks to loads of obsessive “research” on this forum I have secured an Aero Leather jacket.

I say “research” because I’m actually not sure if it’s a 30s or 50s half belt, and only know that it is reddish brown horsehide, but have no idea what specific kind.

It’s very nice though! Albeit quite cropped and definitely still very stiff - not sure I’ll ever properly be able to fully lift my arms in it because it fits quite close.

Size 38, I took a bit of a chance on it and think it’s worked out relatively well. Seen here in pic 1 with some orslow super dads in a 2 year wash, but probably more suitable with my SDA 1002’s (the rest of the pics).

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Looks good.. Did you get the 30s or 50s halfbelt? You have body type for 30s

I honestly don’t know! I guess it’s a 30s but the aero measurements info is so spotty I can’t really compare with anything, and the details for the two models are exactly the same as far as I can tell.

I was happy to have a boxier fit, but agreed I think this one, whatever it may be, does fit quite nicely to my inexpert eye.

Welcome to FL -- I would recommend you run quickly away from here and never return, now that you have a nice jacket. Your wallet will thank you! :)

Being more serious -

This appears to be a 50's HB as per the back panel design. Also slightly boxier cut.

Sleeves are borderline for my tastes, if you lift your arms how much do they roll back?

Overall, a little boxy but would be good with a sweatshirt under it.

I never found the Aero Half-Belts comfortable to wear and they were all subsequently sold off. I hope you have a better experience.

I think it looks cool and you carry it off.

For me it would feel too short in the sleeves and it does kind of look at least a size small to me, or it would be for me.

I too was beaten by the stiffness of a 50s HB which was a shame as I did like the jacket. I think my grail would be one in a softer leather.

Haha sage advice.

I thought as much, really not sure I could do the 30s/ premier because while this one is boxy it is still quite close. They don’t really roll back, the whole jacket moves! They definitely are on the edge of too short though.

What was it about them that you didn’t like re: comfort? I think this one is broadly fine but it’s definitely a bit of a unit.

Thanks! I’m not sure I really disagree with you about the size in all honestly, I think I’m more of a relaxed jacket guy normally so we’ll see how much wear I get out of it.

I think any bigger and it would run the risk of the proportions being out of whack and none of the “issues” being solved though: I think it would probably be too wide, but still be very cropped.

I did try and go to their workshop when I was last in Scotland but didn’t have the time - an imperfect jacket and a week on the Isle of Mull feels like a decent compromise haha.
