Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't our Mr Lauder a heavy smoker? Just wondering how jackets that were stored for years in a smokers terraced home could be classified as "smoke free all the way"? Some buyers might not be sensitive to such things but, for some, jacket odours can be a real deal breaker. Has anyone actually had their olfactory system around the merchandise?
All depends if he smoked in the house or not. We don't know his smoking habits.

Not sure there was any real criminal link between the two. It was Amanda who okay-ed an £8k line of credit to him out of sympathy because he said he was struggling, despite Ken saying specifically not to give Moyes any further cash. I got the impression that Moyes was a man who had got out of his depth with his own business rather than someone on the take, unlike Will, who was both out of his depth and a thief.

Not so sure about that.
Mark was a friend of mine, so it was quite a shock that he evidentially resorted to 'taking' customers money, yet then not even putting their jacket order in with Aero. There were several members posting here about the difficulties of trying to recover those funds. It seems some never did, although (if memory serves) Ken did try to help after these multiple rip offs surfaced. I'm sorry to say that with Mark Moye's sudden and complete disappearance...the word 'thief' isn't at all far fetched.

I sent Mark Moye a $700 deposit about 6 days prior to everything hitting the fan with Aero USA. I was very lucky in that Paypal quickly refunded all my money and Holly contacted me and offered a nice discount on my Aero jacket that I had spec'd out with Mark. That was a first-class move by Holly (and Aero) and I appreciated it very much.

I was in at the tail-end of the MM debacle. I got my goods, and I saw a guy that was good, but got swallowed up by debt and other issues and just tried to survive. I agree with @Sloan1874 that his intent was not to go that way, but when circumstances got bad, I think he succumbed to the pressure and bad things happened.
I got to be friends with him as well, and it hurt me to see this happen. I did get some bizarre emails from someone stating to be a family member, but I opted to keep clear once things were clearly bad. Not abounding someone as much as I didn't want anything to do with what was going on. I've seen way too many internet-based things go bad over the years, and didn't want to get wrapped up in it beyond what I already had done - buying jackets from "Aero USA" and MM. Sad chapter, and I feel for those that didn't get their money back or a jacket.

I have complete sympathy for anyone who was burned by MM: if you're taken for $$$, then it matters not a jot what his motives were. I was just trying to separate the two issues so that people were clear that the two were not directly connected. In fact, if you recall, it was only when Mark Moyes ponzi scheme was uncovered that Ken came back and looked into the books that Lauder's thievery was found out before things got too bad. So, in a perverse way, if you squint your eyes enough, MM kind of helped to save the company.

Life and people aren't that simple. When backed into a corner, one may be capable of strange things. That's not excusing anything or anyone, but it's just true that even good people can go wrong when ***t hits the fan. It's sad. For all involved.

In a sense the route of Mark Moyes problems was Lauder. There was no reason for me to buy anything from him as I'm in the UK but I remember email conversations with him about various things including how much he was paying wholesale. It transpired he wasn't getting much of a discount over Aero's UK RRP.
Increasing competition, Aero's own sales website, and his decision to set up a store on Ebay meant the whole enterprise was uneconomic when ebay fees and all the time faffing about were taken into account. He should of known when to throw the towel in when WL didn't offer him a proper distributor deal . Instead he dreamed up a naive Ponzi scheme.

IMHO, none of them deserve our pity or clemency (unless and until they make genuine and meaningful amends).

Oh please, it's called personal responsibility. Just because I may be going through some seriously tough times..doesn't mean that, therefore, it is, in any way, justifiable or even slightly acceptable that I resort to screwing over you or anyone else. Then slink off without any sign of regret.
