Aero Highwayman: Hide Check

Hey All,

I’m about to purchase an Aero Highwayman. I’ve attached a photo of the hide. Can anyone confirm if this is CXL steerhide, horween, or Connolly? Thanks in advance.

Not by sight.... if there's still a tag in one of the pockets with the date of manufacture on it that might help - it's a very long time since Connolly was available, so after a certain date it won't be.

CXL is not the only steerhide available now, of course - there's also a midweight steer, about the same thickness as FQHH, but softer right off the bat. (That's what my HWM is, and I like it very much).

@Edward thanks for your insight! Current price is around 300 USD so just want to make sure I’m getting my moneys worth. I’ve heard many prefer the old steerhide to the FQHH but I’ve only got the pics to gauge the hide for now.

Whatever version it is, if it's all intact with no damage / holes / excessive wear, USD300 seems a pretty good price against what they're going for on eBay now.

Brown core peeking through I would guess it’s CXL SH. 300 is a good price.

In the second picture you can see the Steer Hide label near the neck

The tags and heavier weight lining suggest it could be an early production HWM - and possibly Connolly if so. either way, it should be a good jacket.

Was this on ebay? If so I looked at it (same lining & tags) and it had a Lot of lining holes, etc. I think it also needed a zipper, so I personally passed on it.
