Aero Hercules Size 46 – Sleeve Length Issue

Hi everyone,

I bought an Aero Hercules in size 46 today for a very fair price. The jacket is in almost like-new condition and fits me well overall – the only issue is that the sleeves are about 3 cm too short.

What do you think – would you just leave the jacket as it is, or would you have the sleeves lengthened?

Does anyone have experience with having the sleeves on an Aero jacket lengthened? Does Aero offer this kind of alteration, or would a skilled leather tailor be the better option?

I was thinking about adding a narrow strip of matching brown leather at the ends of the sleeves.

Has anyone had something similar done, or perhaps even have some pictures of the result?

For what it's worth, in my opinion, appearance wise the sleeves look to be an appropriate length for that style. Maybe a hair on the shorter range of acceptable, but still pretty good. Now if it were like a Cafe Racer or other moto/riding style jacket, I would 100% agree with you, too short.

That said, and putting my non-helpful opinion to the side, it wouldn't hurt to reach out and ask Aero, they may be able to refer someone even if they won't do it. Or if you are in the US Thurston might be a good resource as well.

It's much more straight forward to shorten sleeves than adding on. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it's a solution that would turn out looking good enough that you'd be happier with the appearance than you are now.

I think it would be expensive and hard to look right.
Welcome and Good luck!

They look fine when you are standing still but a little on the short side to me with movement, I know I wouldn't be comfortable with those but I do like longer sleeves.

If you find it comfortable I'd go with it but if you don't I would probably move it along and wait for something that fits better. I think any 'simple' modification to add length is going to be visible on this style of sleeve.

Thanks, I think you’re right. The more I wear it and move around in it, the more I notice that it’s not really comfortable for me. The sleeves are a bit too short, but I also don’t have quite enough freedom of movement in the upper body and shoulders.

It’s a shame because I really like the jacket and the condition is almost perfect, but I’m starting to think it might be better to sell it on and wait for one that fits me properly. Thanks for your honest opinion — I appreciate it.

Sleeves are better slightly long than too short for me.

Move the jacket along and find another one - get measured correctly and order one that fits you ideally.

Its probably the best thing to do I've learnt though its always disappointing.

In the past I've held onto jackets for years which didn't quite fit right, hardly wearing them... then... finally realising I should sell them as space became an issue.

In my eyes the sleeve length is almost perfect, but I understand that my opinion is a minority here on the Lounge.

I don't ride a MC or such, only my amazing electric bike and live a very "urban lifestyle" so "to short" sleeves suits me great :D

My two cents, but like I said, I know my preference is not what most of the beautiful *******s here on the Louge prefers :p

Schott offers a comparable style, a hip length half belt in very thick luxurious bison leather that comes with plenty long sleeves. Keep an eye out for one of these. You will find it is more comfortable to move in as well.

That's a tough one. I would be pretty darn happy to get a fit like that. Grass is always greener, as they say.
