Aero Badalassi Offering

Hey guys, my first post on the forums. About a month ago I ordered my first jacket, an aero sheene in russet badalassi. Can't wait, been into leather for a long time but never had a jacket. We need more badalassi pics, especially aeros!

Being a long time horween guy, I love chromexcel, but the fqhh was just too heavy for my taste. I was also super close to getting a natural vicenza, but I felt like this would be a safer bet for my first jacket a(I love patina, but feel like I wouldn't have to worry about water spots and possible stains as much. I also preferred badalassi russet more than the russet vicenza.

Any maker ever use horween dublin, Essex or derby? I feel like that would be an amazing opportunity. Vegetable tan in the same formula as shell cordovan, and it has such a nice soft hand while feeling plenty strong. Google horween English tan Dublin! One of my favs.

I did see that one after googling. The goods I've handled out of Dublin have had a bit less of a dramatic pull-up, but maybe Essex would be an even better choice if one isn't crazy over as much pull up. I have a Sperry (rancourt) boat shoe made from natural Essex and it's gorgeous. Just starting to turn Carmel color. My favorite leather color is definitely like a nice cognac, whiskey, or caramel. Wish there was more of a choice for a rich medium-light brown in aeros lineup, natural cxl almost fits the bill for me.

The Vicenza felt soft to me right out of the gate, it has just softened up a bit more over the months, as well as developed a bit more of a “juicy” sheen. Soft, but no “give” or noticeable stretch, like I’d hoped in that size. But yes, the Badalassi, at least mine, is heavier, noisier, and more stiff than the Vic, but already softening up nicely in the short time I’ve had it.

I’ll try to post a few pics here, but the lighting in my place isn’t the best. The russet color takes on a more reddish shade indoors as opposed to sunlight

Super excited to find this thread by the way to see your real life badalassi pics. Any chance you can get some pictures taken outside and posted, compared with the vic? Is the vic also russet? A back to back comparison would be cool. Thanks!

I did see that one after googling. Just picked these up this weekend from a local boot maker in my neck of the woods not a jacket but these are Horween Dublin and I’m very excited to see how they age.

These aren’t Viberg or Truman level. Just a little under that. Better than Thursday or Oak Street though. And you can’t go wrong for the price. Uses like Horween, SB Foot, or F. Stead leathers and made in the USA a little 8 person shop. So his prices should be high. Should be just under Viberg for cost of materials and paying for labor in the US. His prices range from 250-350. So maybe not Viberg level but also way way way cheaper. His prices are legitimately incredible.

My only pair of nice boots/shoes are Alden ptbs in color 8 shell. If the quality is even 75% as good, I'll definitely pick up a pair in the future

They look very much like William Lennon boots, similarly priced.

@Jedy617, congrats on the new impending Aero jacket! Ugh, that wait!! It feels like an eternity waiting for a new jacket to arrive. I’m waiting on a fit jacket(which I hope to actually keep) that should be here in a couple of days, and that wait is long enough for me.. I got my custom Aero in 10 weeks on the nose, which is what they estimated for a winter order. I will try to get some outdoor pics of the Badalassi Russet in the next day or two. My Vicenza jacket is blackened brown, so won’t be able to do a side by side russet comparison. I am loving the Badalassi more and more everyday I wear it. It’s still less than a month old, but starting to soften and feel great...

My new Aero J-100 in tobacco Badalassi. Only worn about an hour, still needs to relax and drape. Pretty stock other than olive drab stitching and an interior pocket (no stud). The sun really brings out the reddish tones and makes it appear more russet than brown. Not that shiny, but plenty squeaky! A lot of grain in this hide. I'm very happy with the jacket, the hide, and the service from Carrie at Thurston Brothers.

Mine is same specs as Grayland. Tobacco badalassi with olive stitching. My hide is much more plain, but some grain is getting through.

Yeah, I'm surprised it hasn't been more popular as of yet. I've actually owned items in badalassi and knew about the tannery before purchasing my jacket, kind of swayed me in a bit, no idea who produced vicenza, and while horween is one of my fav tanneries, the cxl was just too heavy. When has Thurston/Aero started offering the reworked badalassi? I remember seeing it for their first time on their site late november when I was speccing my jacket. Also, I wish we could get more info on what goes into the "reworked" badalassi. I know they give it to a tannery in the UK before aero receives it. Maybe more skiving and tumbling? I remember reading a post from ken on another site, he simply says reworked though.

THe first Badalassi Aero I remember seeing was, I think, the petrol blue Aeromarine that Major Major, ex of this parish, bought at the peak of the brief blue-leather craze in these parts. I liked the look of it a lot.
