Advice On Feather in the hat

Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

My question is.... My "step" Grandad always wore a hat and always wore a feather on it, the thing is he was from Republic of Ireland (Donegal) and I was wondering is there a specific feather that the Irish wear in a hat or don't it matter.

I want to carry on this tradition/look but I don't want to get it wrong or course offence.

No secret meaning I've ever heard of. If you like a feather in your hat, go for it. Toothpicks, of course, are another story.

I recall reading that traditionally the feather placed in a hatband was from a bird of a local (to the hat wearer location) species.
This is of course not done anymore. Maybe you could just pick an Irish wild bird feather for it?

If you're wearing an overly wide-brimmed hat with a zoot suit, then you may use a peacock feather.

After trying to find an example of a press pass, I was disappointed to find out that putting them in hatbands was a Hollywood myth.
