Then it would be nice to bring back the Stetsonian thread as I imagine that's where you discussed it. I cant find it. Can you find it and bring it back Fed? Thx.

Actually, I think there were a few discussions which mentioned the Stetsonian as a side note. One was surely the Quintessential Modern Fedora, but there was at least one more that I posted on, but have not yet found.

Well......BOTH the tawney and the caribou arrived today!! they go well with my other.....the mink.
I just HAD To bash up the tawney right away with a center dent and pinches! Not sure what I will do with the grey.......yet.

I was overtaken with the panic that I would forever miss out on the opportunity to have one of these fabulous hats of rare quality. I ordered and when it arrived I was delighted with the color. The feel of it was wonderful – so soft. Upon close examination it was not quite as much of a treat, it had some unsightly stitches, the ribbon is pulled crooked and stitched in place that way, but nothing to really get excited about. I tried an experimental center crease in it and I was disappointed to see it pop automatically into an existing memory crease. This crease was about 5 degrees off “north” and it stubbornly stayed there. The felt acted like flannel, it was soft and offered little resistance, but the crease would not agree to be clocked so it went straight fore and aft, along the axis of the hat. I tried a few different side dents, but none of them would stay put, even under steam. The crown had no will to retain a shape at all – except for that hateful crooked center crease. The hat, labeled my size, was at least one size too big (a rarity because my head is about the size of a washing machine). The hat brim shared the crown’s utter lack of commitment, it was flabby and crooked. The front of the brim won’t stay down and it doesn’t look good up.


So it has been on its peg for about two years, coming down once in a while to see if it has learned its lesson and will now play by the rules, but it never has. A few nights ago we had a nice warm evening with a mist of a sprinkle of rain. I hoped the mist would shrink the hat a little and maybe allow the brim and crown to be shaped and perhaps take a set. After an otherwise pleasant walk, I took off the hat and gave it a test squeeze to see if the crown would cooperate and it seemed willing. So I put a couple of Alan-esqe side dents in it, fixed the brim and carefully placed it on its peg to dry in that shape. Next morning I took it down and was disgusted to see the crooked crease had returned and the side dents had once again vanished. And now the brim had curled into a horrible caricature of a little cowboy hat. I eventually got the cartoon brim flattened, but no dents will stay in the crown except the one I despise.


So, all in all, I am not a fan of the Stesonian and, if it is any indication of widespread quality they are trying to sell, they deserve to go out of business.

Did you buy this hat used?? It should NOT have any memory crease.........They sell them open crown new......have not had trouble dry creasing mine....have not had to use steam on any of mine.....

Sounds like yours may be one of the infamous Hatco "results of poor QC."

I'm going to take a shot and say the original felting or blocking process was jacked up, possibly causing it to want to go into a shape the felt wants. Sort of like cutting a fabric on the wrong bias. Or perhaps the sweat was installed off-center to the crown blocking? It sounds like your finishing work was the result of poor QC, as well. A reblocking by a professional MIGHT help.

Mine was also pretty big, but repeated wearings had it snug down and conform nicely to my noggin.

Yep , I agree . Sounds like a reject . Not the norm , I wouldn't think . What , about $25-$35 maybe to remove and re-stetch the sweat , and it could be fixed , but shouldn't have to be . Poor QC on that one for sure . The Stetsonian was my favorite of the line . Sorry you had that trouble . I'm sure a pro could fix it . And I'd call the whine line at Stetson maybe first , they might do it .

Lounge advertiser hat shop? Sounds like it should have been immediately returned. The quirks inherent in the Stetson finishing work are well known. Some tolerable others not acceptable. I can reiterate, the only safe way to buy a Stetson is hands on or if bought sight unseen, make positively sure it's critically inspected for quality and fit by the seller and comes with a good and fair return policy.

My Stetsonian is in caribou and the color is great. The ribbon is well done and the felt is very nice. The size is larger than my other Stetsons to the point that even after several months, I still have padding tucked in the sweat band.

Overall, I am still glad that I bought it.

Love the Caribou and Tawny Stetsonian . I have Hats it seemed to take 6 months or more before they started snugging up . No big deal , better than too tight . I think its better to get one now Brand New , than for them to become scarce and wish you had . But that happens . Good Call Fed .
