Beatle fan here, too. I was a teenager during the disco years, and discovered The Beatles as an escape from Saturday Night Fever.

I also love 60s psychedelia like Strawberry Alarm Clock. :cool2:

I with you! I'm a huge Beatles fan, too. I discovered the Beatles when my 7th grade music teacher realized it was futile trying to teach 12 year olds to appreciate classical music, so he started us with the British Invasion and moved forward from there. I also discovered Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and a whole lot of others thanks to him. I had a huge collection of really obscure psychedelic stuff, like Clear Light, Amboy Dukes, and others, plus every Pink Floyd album.

I'va also always been a big fan of the Mod scene. The Jam was my favorite band in high school, plus a few others like Secret Affair, the Merton Parkas, The Lambrettas, Madness, etc.

I was totally into the Beatles in Jr High/High School. I had something like 5 Beatles posters in my room, all their CDs and even some rare LPs...which I played on my 70s record player. SO RETRO!! lol

I guess what I originally meant was since a lot of you embrace vintage that other people you know might be surprised that you actually like modern things. Some people I work with assume I just like old music, old movies, own all vintage clothing, etc. So they are a bit surprised when I let them know I also like to listen music that is the complete opposite of big band jazz. I have a large DVD collection, but only a few are classics (heck, I practically have the entire Woody Allen collection). My home is about 80% antiques, though.

*insert girly squal* CAKE is my favorite band of all time!! They are genuis lyricists, and I love how monotone and serious the singer is- yet they're so dang funny.

AND Ben Folds. Definately one of the greatest songwriters of our era. I saw him on tour with just a piano when they were filming the Live CD. It was probably the best show I've been to in my entire life.

I'm a long way from pure vintage, but the most non-vintage thing I do is sit at this computer. I never listen to the radio or music at home or in the car & don't have TV. I can honestly say I like the silence.

I feel like and old fogey reading this thread. (Not that I mind ) I wouldn't know indie rock of I heard it. The most recent music I like is the hard rock and heavy metal I listened to as a teenager.

But I do like Liszt, Satie, Dvorak and other romantic and impressionist composers. Vintage, yes, but pre-golden era.

Lately, though, I prefer to song of the crickets and cicadas and dogs to the din of the dance hall.

Counter Retro?

I'm a huge fan of DirectTV because it's easier to stay on top of all things Retro thanks to XM raido, History/Discovery/Nat-Geo channels.

But, alas... I admit to being a diehard Moody Blues fan and I have some disco CD's.

Funny, I'm also trying to collect stuff from the 1980s that were retro to the 1940's.

*insert girly squal* If you love Cake and Ben Folds, how do you feel about Rufus Wainwright!? He and Ben Folds toured together, altho I didnt get to go Love love love love him! Ive seen him in concert like 4 times!

On a side note, you know who throws a mean concert, Tears For Fears. I saw their show about a year ago with the tour of their last album 'Everybody Loves a Happy Ending', and it was Rad!

You know... people have told me about him lots but I've never acutally listened to Rufus Wainwright, or Tears for Fears!

I got stuck in those strange but nice indie bands for a while in college and a few of them stuck- Rilo Kiley, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, The Faint (three of the four were at one time Saddle Creek bands... how disgustingly stereotypical is that lol )

I used to love Reel Big Fish, the Aquabats, etc... love Lorenna Mckennitt, Old Blind Dogs (which ChorusGirl introduced me to) Switchfoot, Goldfinger I guess I'm just all over the map when it comes to music! Don't like Rap or R&B though...

Sadly, thats the case with most great bands to touch mainstream. The stuff that gets noticed by the norm is 'safe' enough for a general audience, but its rarely their best stuff, or their early stuff.

Sorry Lady Day, there are so many great threads here at the lounge and so little time, I'd sort of stopped following this one... Thanks for the compliment, and the suggestion!

I worked for a summer doing layouts for my university's campus paper, and I really enjoyed it. Always have been interested in graphic layouts. I'm sure I'd love a career in print photography (especially CD covers!) But I just have *too many* interests. [huh] Had to choose one, and it's definitely medicine, for every reason imagineable including job satisfaction.

Then again, a dual career ALSO in print photography? No prob! Soon as I finish some required reading!
