Re the Excelled I did quite a lot of research on the G1 before my love affair with them began. The military and the civilian version are exactly the same except the labelling. I was going to get one but at that time they would not ship abroad. Excelled categorically stated that they are the same jacket bar the labels. Cockpit are a large concern with a specialist military type of jackets. Excelled only do the G1 and A2 so it's just not worth them doing different versions. I have a friend your side of the pond and he tells me that the current G1s from Excelled are the Dla labels 2008. I presume that it was a large contract and at this stage they do not need any more. Not seen anything newer.

That email is good stuff! So some of the USCG commands do Private purchases directly and do not go through the supply system. That would make the deviations from the specifications make sense.

However, these 3 Coasties appear to have the synthetic collars on them. Not as lucky as some I guess.

I would guess that the missing bottom seam could pass DOD inspection, it is a pretty minor deviation. I don't think that Goatskin and real fur would be acceptable for a contract jacket though. It is clearly stated as not allowed in the specs.

I wonder is the lady in the 1st photo has the more expensive and better quality Signature series and the others the cheaper Made in China version? I suppose it depends on the budget on different units?

It probably comes down to that and who is doing the ordering. Just like here, everybody has their preferences and ideas of value.

Get a jacket nut in there and it's "Hellooooo, Signature Series!"

I want to get a Uscg signature series but still trying to figure out the size. So what we have found out between ourselves they are sort of 'issued' . Will get some measurements of my Excelled and e mail Usw to find out. Am Stateside this May so will order one to our hotel. I enquired re postage and it's $99 plus the same again for Custom charge which is a hefty extra. Also if fit is wrong I can send it back much better to get a replacement

The USWings look to be large fitting compared to the shots of you in that Excelled. Of course I don't know what size they are getting and they may be leaving room in there for cold weather gear, like a dry suit, which I think would be pretty much an every day piece of gear for those guys.

Mine is a 44R. It fits exactly like a 42L. The jacket itself is superb, in material and construction.

Cheers for that. As I said I will send them an e mail with pic of the Excelled with tape measurements. I guess I will be looking at 40R possibly 42R.

Beware they run small. My normal size is 41R, or 40R. The lady at Wings insisted that I order the 44.

Just for general reference, a photo:
