If you've got to call someplace home, I'd say that's as good (an understatement) as any other.

It looks a treat* on you. You couldn't ask for a better fit. However, I think it is 1995 rather than a 1980s model. PO1 Monaghan should have kept that one. But when he made Chief, he probably went to a bridge coat and sold his peacoat.

well, it's a 42S and the sleeves are a tad bit short, but it's certainly as compact in body length as I wanted it to be. However, your verdict is all anyone could ask for, Mr. Peacoat.
And I didn't check on the manufacturing date, I just went for the size and badge.

I stated before that I would never dare to wear it in the US, but over here I do wear it with deep-felt reverence.

I personally wouldn't see anything wrong with wearing it over here. Wearing jeans and other civilian clothing, it is obvious you aren't impersonating a sailor. My wife has a peacoat with a PO1 rating on the sleeve, and she doesn't have a problem wearing it. As long as it is obvious the wearer isn't trying to be that which he isn't, then I think it is OK. Just my opinion--others may differ.

The coat is nice, but forgive me if I am even more taken by the view - quite a place to call home. From the looks of it, you will use that peacoat a lot there.

As you might know Munich is regularly raided by hordes of italians, who like to call it "italy's northernmost city". So there is a reason for that habit and there is of course also local figures like "Monaco Franze" that embody a slightly less teutonic flair.

By the way, I found this customized peacoat from RRL in Minoru Onozato "My Rugged 211", a sometimes comically detailed catalogue of Mr. Onozato's wardrobe (and other belongings).
Mr. Onozato is the editor of the Free & Easy Magazine and owner of the "Rugged Museum", which is indeed a shop in Tokio. Strangely enough, Mr. Onozato praises his vintage collectibles in the book and sells copies of a number of those in his shop. However, he does have a number of very nice discoveries to show.

As you can see RRL felt compelled to sew on a huge red-and-blue patch on the back and add this funny looking flag on the right sleeve.

In meant to say people from Munich would like to think they have something "italian" about them, not to complain about Italian visitors.

As an aside: Bavaria was never part of the K.u.K. monarchy and number plates in blue and white are common for all german states and not exclusive to Bavaria.

But let's return to the topic of outerwear, I'd say.

Ugh and by the way, that Peacoat is also still with me. Get's decent attention every spring from the dry cleaners, isn't impressed with anything my boring old life comes up with and is ready for whatever future. Buy those used - with confidence gents.
