Nice suit sir. Love that pattern. I used to have one like it only with 2 buttons. It's real swell.

The pattern is even better than it appears on the auction page. It is a grey houndstooth with lots of blue threads (just had it under the microscope to make sure the blue tint was not a figment of my imagination) and with a red/pink wondowpane overcheck. Also a bit of white double stripe amidst the checks.

The fabric is also very light compared to some of my other vintage suits. Not sumer weight, but a good autumn/spring weight ...

very nice indeed.

[edit] It's also completely unworn. No staining anywhere, and absolutely no sign of wear at all. Just the usual dust from storage and a couple of tiny moth holes..

Having received it and taken some measurements, i date it to the late 40s/early 50s.

The cuffs are very wide (about 20") on the trousers which makes me shy away from the mod thing, and points me towards late 40s rather than early 50s. The trousers are very high waisted with suspender buttons, which again, suggests not mod, to me. The trousers close at the waistband with two snaps, from what i can see a mid-late 40s fad.

The jacket is partially lined with grosgrain-taped seams - a practice from what i've seen which fell out of favour in the mid-late 50s ... so not mod, again.

Baron, you really do have THE EYE. If I were quickly going through auctions, I would have thought this 70s. Probably would have bid on it - but as a 70s suit. Fantastic find.

Edit - See, now looking at it again, I notice the narrow drop loops - Not 70s. I have to keep my eyes open for these things. I rely too much on the tactile approach.

Baron, i have a blue american jacket with a very similar lapel shape dated '51, so i'd agree with your date estimate. still don't understand how you have the time to trawl the 60s section of ebay as WELL as the 30s/40s/50s !
