A new Milliner looking for guidance

When I started this Millinery journey, I never quite understood how much there was the learn… I’m glad though because it keeps me intrigued..

Since I have no one to ask questions and I’m self taught (thank you to the masterminds on YouTube), I’m hoping someone can guide me on blocking hats.

Is there a rule for blocking hats when you need to incorporate a leather sweat band. For example, my head size is a 22 1/2”. I have a 22 1/2” hat block that I bought but once I hand sew a sweatband in the thing is too tight! So then I purchased a 22.83” hat block and it’s still to tight.

How much room do I need to leave in order to put a sweatband in and it fit my head.

Hopefully someone can help me out because I’m feeling discouraged and would love to make myself a hat.

I am a custom hat maker and like many (most) largely self taught....(trial and error). If you have questions feel free to send me a PM and I would be glad to help you if I can.
I work in metric for my blocks. Wear a size 59cm hat and so would block it on a 60cm block. You also need to know your head shape......are you a Regular Oval or a Long Oval or something in between?
A word of caution....learning hat making does indeed involve a lot. It is a deep rabbit hole in which to fall into!!!
