Most of the soft felt's brims are in the 2 3/8 inch range (1912 - 1922).

These Schoble soft felt dress hats (also the stiff felts) are very similar to what you see in Germany and Austria (also France, Italy, ect) at the same time period (form, dimensions, finish). They show more European influence. The soft dress hat styles that are very popular here at the FL have an American Western influence and are a from a later time period.

I believe this comes from Europe. I see these designations (Zephyr / Zephir, Foulard, Plume) on German and Austrian soft felts including Velours. Makers were always trying to make lighter weight felt. You also see this with Stiff Felts because they were loosing ground to lighter weight more comfortable Soft Felts. I am not sure what is meant by Plump weight -> Heavier weight? (maybe should be Plume?).

Side notes: Notice all the Velours and specialty finishes in Fall 1913. Austrian Velours became very popular in America around 1910.

Also the Bat Wing bow styles (some offset) in Spring / Fall 1915. Here is an JHS Velour from the same time period with an offset Bat Wing bow that belongs to RLK (Robert). An amazing hat!
