At a recent deco show in SF some months back, I discovered that a vintage store in SF had reproduction beaded dresses made by the person that did them for the film, The Artist. One of their dresses is worn in the scene by the lead female character, where the male lead walks in to see her 'acting' with his coat that is hanging on a rack.
At the time at the show I decided that these lovelies 20s style dresses couldn't possibly work with my 40s figure. Well! On Thursday I finally got to the shop, Decades of Fashion in the Haight Ashbury district and tried a few on... Lo and behold! I found one that looks great on me, the "Claudette" style in a midnight blue colouration. Also got a peach coloured vintage slip to wear underneath. Found a cute little deco pair of jeweled earrings, and a double pearl strand with jewels choker to go with it. This newly made dress will be perfect for dancing in, as its not fragile like a vintage 20s dress would be.
They have a lovely style done in a rose pink in the shop that I want to take my 18yo to see and try on.
Anyone else enamoured with the clothes of this film?? Beaded 20s dresses?
