Very unique raised gold embossing . I just thought about this so I wanted to point it out. I need to look at this closer.

Steve, both of these are such great looking hats, really eye catching and I keep taking a look and I wondered; does the R.& M. Wegener have an overwelt or am I seeing things? Always a possibility.

Greg, Thank you! Yes the Wegener has an overwelt. Same with the Echter Borsalino. Both are a common style / form for later 1920s Germany.

PS As an aside some of the "Rolnick", "styled by Rolnick" hats have been showing up on Ebay recently........
I actually have some early 50's hats from "The White House" I just picked up......my "White House" was in San Fransisco....I have a feeling there were a lot of "White House's" Like there were "the Hub".
PSPS: "Process Felted" was Resistols term for their felting after they acquired the Byer-Rolnick fur cutting plant and built a rough-body plant in Longview, Texas. With these additions they controlled the ENTIRE felt making process from fur to finish......AND were the only hat company to do so.......

I've never been able to pull off that half-snapped brim look. Of course, the fact that I look less like a dashing young sheik and more like a midwestern drygoods storekeeper doesn't help.

"Ceiling Price" indicates OPC or OPS era. Coupled with the cellophane it would be the latter when these were introduced.....

Before posting in the 20’s thread I’ve never placed a date on this hat. I along with a few others just followed the 1927 when the two got together. I don’t mind being offered a different opinion or being corrected but the passive/aggressive nature of your earlier post is what bothers me. And still, you’ve offered nothing. You could have said all of this, albeit with fewer words and CAPS, in your earlier post. You can find the tag behind the sweat.

Records retained in Garland, TX document the Rolnick family opened a hat renovation shop in Dallas in 1917. In 1922 Harry Rolnick opened "Harry's Hat Shop" on his own. By 1925 - 1926 he was modifying Homburg deadstock hats that were no longer in style or selling, & the Florence Hat Comoany was making hats of Harry's design. I would bet this places your hat right in that 1925 - 1926 timeframe. Byer-Rolnick was formed in 1930-1931 when Edward Byer bought out Florence Hat Co making him partners with Rolnick.

Indeed it does deserve a refresher. The 1920's had everything from the worker's preference of the flat cap, popularised in the TV drama, Peaky Blinders.

Through to the top hat worn by dignitary and those climbing the social ladder.

And just about everything else in between.

But nobody was ever as suave as the well dressed gangster.

Light brown-gold "ERKO" Velour (Ernst Kohlndorfer, Miesbach) - probably late 20s (I think)
The velour is wonderfully soft and in my opinion comes close to some Hückel qualities.
According to the paper label a 57 (cm), but fits more like a 58 (and thus just enough for me).
Height open crown 16 cm; central dent at a luxurious 12.5 cm; width of brim at 6 cm
Note the beautiful Art Deko logo as well as the handwritten price.
Sold in Bautzen (Saxony) by "A. Fleyel Nachf.[ahren]"
