2 5/8" Brim...

My new Dobbs Gay Blade is the first vintage hat I've come across with a 2 5/8" brim. Seems like many of the wider brim vintage lids discussed here fall into the 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" category. I'm finding this "in-between" size to be a nice width.

Anyone know what vintage lids out there came with a standard 2 5/8" brim?

Cheers,

2 5/8 is a great brim length for just about anyone. It is considered a wide brim but it's not too much hat for a slender narrow faced man. My personal favorite 2 11/16 but I will wear a 2 3/4 also but nothing over that mark.
I don't know why so few hats come in a 2 5/8 but I would like to see more.

Thanks for the input guys.

Taking a cue from Baron Kurtz, I guess a different way to ask the original question is -- what vintage lids does anyone have out there with a 2 5/8" brim?

Back in San Diego I have been letting a friend use my Citation fedora. It has a 2 5/8 brim with a cav edge and a 5inch crown (oringinally 5 1/2 inch crown). It was my only fedora I can think of with a 2 5/8 brim. Sorry I ddn't get the cue.:eusa_doh:

Sure.

But I would guess a lot of them did.
It seems to me that looking for a model that comes
with a "standard" brim of 2 5/8" isn't going to get you
very far. From what I've seen, hat models varied in
brim width over the years and some were available
in more than one brim width during the same year.
I have a relatively stingy 40s Stratoliner to prove it
(at least till I sell it).

I suspect that in the good old days, at least with some
hats, you could get more than one factory brim width.
Certainly with bound and raw brims, you could get 'em cut down.

Thanks for the feedback, gents. I get what you're saying. I was just trying to figure out whether there might be certain models that tended to be based primarily on a 2 5/8" brim width. For example, although there are certainly variations, it seems that the Open Road tended to feature a 2 3/4" brim. For the Stratoliner, 2 1/2" seems to be a very commonly reported brim width.

In reviewing auctions on OFAS, I just don't recall coming across many hats sporting a 2 5/8" brim, but maybe that's just my experience.

So, I'm just curious what our collective sense is about how common this brim width was on vintage lids.

Cheers,
