1950's Unbranded (Penney's) Moto Cross-Zip Sz 42-44

1950’s Cross-Zip, unbranded but appears consistent with J.C. Penny’s jackets of that time. Purchased from another forum member by way of eBay. I really wanted this to fit, but it is too large for me so it is getting moved along. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can shed some light on the manufacturer. The leather is heavyweight but supple. All the zippers are original and work well. A previous owner removed two of the studs on the kidney panel and made some holes to add side cinches – see photos for details. There were originally 2 stars on each epaulet which have since been removed. Includes a removable brown mouton collar.

About the collar's fur: is it real mouton or faux?

I believe it is real, but I'm not sure I have the experience to say for sure. It is incredibly soft and feels very similar to a vintage cal leather jacket collar I have. It also feels nothing like the several jackets that I've owned that have faux collars. I took some close ups, not sure if that helps with identification.
