1930s candy bars & matchbooks

I saw these items on ebay. I don't think I'd buy them myself, but someone here may be interested. I love this old packaging. The fonts and colours and clip art (probably not clipped, but executed especially fo the client) all just look so great to me. I grew up in the 70s and 80s a period during which everything, especially packaging (okay, also architecture) looked like crap, so I really love this old stuff. Eye candy.

Wow, how cool is that! You know, most of the candy/chocolate bars we enjoy today came onto the market in the late 1920's! Saw a very interesting special on the H channel about today?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s candy bars! Shocked the chocolate right out of me!

My self, there's nothing like a HERSHEY'S with almonds! Just the darned best thing on Mother Earth! It's so good because it's so simple. Also, it's a very golden era treat!

I wonder if an actual candy bar from the 30s would still be edible? You see really old, full bottles of coke a lot in antique stores but I am not sure I want to be the one to test if it is still good or not...

I have some soda in the bottles but, I'd never try it. I'm 100% sure it's bad by now. 60+ years only is good to wine

Candy of the same vintage isn't good either. Ever open a candy bar wrapper and see the chocolate is all light colored and dry? Yeah, they go stale after a wile. Don't want to see a 60 year old chocolate bar thanks.

Did you happen to see the Simpsons episode where Bart and Millhouse break into Flanders' house and discover his Beatles shrine which has a case of Beatles soda from the sixties. They drink it and hilarity follows thereafter.

Matchbooks

I used to have a plain straight sided vase filled with old Las Vegas casino matchbooks, lots from places that don't exist anymore. Wouldn't you know it my roomate's visiting brother took every one of the books and used them, all of them. He would grab a fresh book every time he went out to smoke, because he always left them out side the dew always made them useless. I came back from a desert camping trip to find my display had been turned to crap. Plus neither one of them could understand the idea of a "collection" of vintage unused match books from Las Vegas Casinos that don't exist any more could be considered in any way precious, unique or worth saving. plus they broke the swizzle sticks getting the matches!

I wouldn't on a dare. If you do check for worms. I've gotten old (but not nearly THAT old) chocolate from country stores before that had grubs in it.

Speaking of vintage wrappers, a while agoI got the graphics for Wrigley's Double Mint and Juicy Fruit wrappers from the 1930's and I've wanted to use them ever since. Anyone know what kind of paper should I use for these?

I could save you some trouble there. Just buy Reese's Peanut Butter Cups---same thing. That is unless you like chunky peanut butter.

chewing gum wrappers

CharlieH, I have the Juicy Fruit wrapper jpeg and it prints on white paper. Nothing special, computer paper is fine.
The gum should wrapped in foil first though.
