on a side note, this is a terrible matching and wouldnt try this now days (suit jacket, work shirt, formal waistcoat and cords!). Please remember many of these people were dead poor and so would wear whatever they could afford/find. They would always do their best to look tip tops and make due with what was passed down to them of what they could afford. DO NOT make the mistake of trying this today as will look s**t :)

Trying to actually dress like normal people of the day is actually much cooler and realistic then trying to look like a movie star or an illustration.

the kid is wearing a bow tie to pull it all together and since he is at work picking up glass he wont mind the cords getting messed up rather then the matching slacks. He's just proud of his suit and wants to wear a piece of it while he can.

About the high armholes: the sloped shoulder seam adds to the effect. The shoulder would sit in the sleeve. I imagine this kind of cut only works when all measurements are taken with care. There is a limit to the praised freedom of movement when the high armholes cut into your pits and the sleevehead is just too tight.

It could be, although it's hard to tell from just the one picture. The shoulders look a little wide, but I guess it could be from the second half of the 20s, which I'm not as familiar with.

If its the eBay suit for $400 something dollars its not. Its a mid to late 40s suit. Wide shoulders- low button placement and drape chest found in that period.
