here is a superb example of the highly desirable, very collectible, "8 Point" or "One Piece Octagonal" tweed cap. This one, from the labeling and the price, appears to be from the 20's or 30's - Made by Wolfe's Caps for W.J. Wilson, Victoria, British Columbia. I have not been able to find any info on Wolfe's Caps - the printed label states "British Made" - so probably made in Great Britain, and sold abroad - at least in the Empire & Commonwealth. Small cloth tag just under the left end of the leather sweatband shows size of 7 1/4 (accurate) and a price of 2.30 - I do not know if this was in Pounds or in Canadian dollars (probably the latter).
Wonderful, coarse, Donegal type of tweed in primarily tan and dark brown, with gold, orange, olive and black "slubs". Lining is a gorgeous, ribbed golden/orange silk or satin with attractive stitching. Leather sweatband is of the partial type, only along the brim, which is quite substantial, and snaps to the front of the cap. Top of cap is in one piece with 8 darts. measures about 11" across.
Condition is excellent - No holes, picks, loose stitching, stains, smells or visible wear - the leather sweatband is slightly darkened in a place or two, but the leather is still supple with no cracks.
Price is $150 shipped (insured) in USA - add $10 for overseas shipping. Yes, the price is a tad high, but have noticed that the very few repro pieces available out there are all command a high price - plus, you don't have to wait for this one to be made for you.
