Well, I think it is kind of fun. But am I the only one that thinks it is a bit strange that at least two of the photos are not of thirties stills, but stills from movies about the 30s, made in 1969 and 1973? What sense does that make?

I love these shots. Like a lot of us, I wish they would credit the clothing. Whenever I see a good-looking modern vintage-style man's suit, I think "Ralph Lauren", but the women's clothing? I have no idea. Anyone care to guess where the 'Claudette Colbert' outfit comes from?.

Vanity Fair does list the fashion credits, but get out your magnifying glass because it's very small print in the back pages of magazine:

"James Marsdon's Polo Ralph Lauren jacket, suit, shoes and hat from selected Ralph Lauren stores. Izod shirt... Etro tie from Etro, NYC."

"Rose Byrne's SportMax sweater and skirt from SportMax, NYC. Rochas blouse from Barneys NY; ...Polini shoes... Ralph Lauren Collection belt... vintage stockings from Illisa's Vintage Lingerie, NYC..."

Thanks! I totally missed that!

So, these fashions are still being made much like in the classic style days. Available and being sold. I think that means that we are very much seeing these lines and sillouettes still serving to inspire designers today. That makes me happy. :)

I like that photo because is not "too perfect" or "too posed" is very natural, i can't ever imagine Vanity Fair or any glossy magazine doing something like that in 2009....

But I'm not going to complain.... that recreation from V.F is better than nothing, i guess, to bring the past a little closer. [huh]

When i see that sort of thing,it only makes me yearn more for days gone by, , and back i go, to my old movies and old magazines! Sigh...

I agree there is a certain dreamy look in Colbert's eyes I get the impression that the picture was not taken for the purpose of of a still, but, an impromptu snap prior to a posed picture.

In any event I enjoy how natural Gable and Colbert appear to be. Kinda romantic.....;)
