    My new hats

You must have really gotten upset over all the Fedoras that were made into Ed "Big Daddy" Roth hats back in the 70s.

Need to locate Hat Boxes in So. Cal!

Hat Boxes Check your closest western store. They usually have hat boxes for $5.00 each. Alternatively get a box the right size from a moving supply store (probably less then 2.50), place hat in sealed baggie and use the Styrofoam peanuts to secure hat firmly in box.

    Salt Lake City

JW Hats in SLC Thanks for the notice of J W Hats, ran by there on the way to the airport today, definitely an interesting place. Talked to Jim for awhile about his hats and life in general. While it may be blasphemy on this board I actually liked his Half Breed hat; brim was felt and Crown was...

    Peter Bros versus Miller Hats

Peter Bros wins Made it to Millers today and I must say that Peter Bros wins. Basically what I found was Millers is a good RETAIL shop and Peters Bros was a FULL SERVICE hat shop. Prior to my trip I exchanged several emails with Miller hats about the hats I was interested in and they said the...

    Peter Bros versus Miller Hats

Peter Bros vs Millers; Update Well I made it to Peter Bros tonight after all. Picked up the rental car at 5, called the store and they were open until 6. So decided to give it a shot. Just barely made it in time, took almost as long to find a parking place as it did to drive there. I dealt...

    $1,400 Fedora??

Marketing 101; Rodeo Drive Pricing Way back when I was in college one of my classes discussed the "Rodeo Drive Pricing system". Which basically means if your clientele has way too much money, they do not value items unless they are priced extremely high. Seems ridiculous to us but it is a...

    Peter Bros versus Miller Hats

Peter Bros versus Millers Thanks for the great insight into the two shops. Starting to lean towards Millers because they look like they are more in line with where I am driving then Peters. May still try and make both time permitting. Will send out a report when I return on how I did in the hat...

Would you like the fedora and related hats to become main stream fashion

Hats on Dancing with the Stars Last night watched Dancing with the Stars and George Hamilton had a nice Fedora on during his routine. One of the guys had a cloth hat like B!Wear. Unfortunately Master P had a baseball cap on backwards.:kick: So mainstream America got to see a wide variety of...

    The Great Beer Thread

To beer or Not to Beer On business trips to Phoenix I discovered Fat Tire Beer from New Belgium Brewing in CO. Considering I normally do not like beer I was pleasantly surprised about its great taste. Unfortunately it is close to impossible to find in Southern Calif, in fact for Xmas my Wife...

    Stetson's new beaver fedora

Since I am a newbie here take my words with a grain of salt, however I was in the Western Hat Works three weeks ago and the new owners are definitely not hat people. The Owner does not really speak english and could not understand what several different customers were asking her. I was also...

China to blame for soaring felt prices...

Effect of China Two years ago when China started buying up steel, all types of alloys, and aluminum the prices went up by anywhere from 75% to 200%. A normal 2 week delivery is now quoted in months, sometimes years due to the shortages. So we can only hope they do not decimate the felt industry...

    Whippet - 7 5/8 Oval (on Ebay)

EBay bidding I must be missing something; on several occasions I have seen one person bidding up the price of a hat, but do not see any other bids. I realize there is a statement that "automatic" bids will not be shown, however I have seen where the bidder has been the first one to start the...

    Adding a rope?

Hooks in Akubras Just looked in an old akubra hat of mine, for sale in classified. Turns out it does have the hook and slit behind sweat band mentioned above. If you did not know to look for them you would never know they were there. If someone would tell me how to insert photos into emails I...

I have 2 Akubra hats for sale; a tan Cattleman, size 57, and a black Drifter size 58. Both hats are probably 15 years old, but in the closet for last 12, long story but involves ex-wife and ex-cowboy dancing. They have only been worn a couple of times and that was years ago. If you are...
