I can think of a solution for stacking them - buy some plush bath towels and fold then into half length of jacket - then roll (fold the jacket) at half length over the towel - this way even you stack a few the jackets should be fine. The towels should be periodically changed and dried and...
Aero last did removable collar 15 years ago around 1999-2000. They say they are not happy with how removable collar sits no matter what construction method is used. I am getting removable collar made by a 3rd party.
So that shearling collar looks permanent to me. Which is tidier than removable.
You’re probably right. I do dread folding the collar at the wrong place though - getting an ugly fold line that’s going to stay on until the whole collar is broken in in X years (I think collars and pockets break in much later than body and sleeves?)
I actually have a more aggressive method - soak the whole jacket in cold bath, drain dry, then dab with a bathtowel to get rid of excess water. When still wet/damp, apply a old recipe saddle leather conditioner (lard, tallow and beeswax based) that is hard at room temp and only melts on hand -...
I caught a cold and didn’t want to pass onto others in the house - so last night I decided to sleep in the living room on a mattress.
I thought what an excellent opportunity to sleep in my new jacket to help break in!!
So after a hot bath I slipped into my cold, stiff and heavy armory aero...
I’ve found a few other threads here on hangers - wow this had been discussed over and again :)
The cedar wood hangers I posted above are 19.75” long which I think is the longest shop bought hanger one can find. My KoTR does look a little sagged at shoulders on it - but I won’t lose sleep on it...
Thank you v much I’ve read your DIY post why great interest!
I’d never thought about the neck to shoulder angle before. I’d always just assumed the wider the hanger and the thicker the ends the better shoulders are supported.
Earlier in the year when I made a decision to get back into leather jackets - first thing I did was buying 3 of these delux cedar wood hangers! They were sold in UK by an Amazon retailer Hanger World, but when I checked today I could no longer find them. I did find the identical one on a US shop...
I heard their 2mm HH is to be taken with pinch of marketing salt. There are other choices of thick hides and they do few amazing. This is a heavy goat JL jacket I recently got from a fellow lounger - very thick and pliable at the same time.
Like others said - sell both jackets - even at a loss and I won’t even bother with altering either - you’d end up with something even less sellable and end up selling even cheaper and with the money you paid for altering it you’d be even more out of pocket…
So even more reasons to sell them...
Thank you that’s good advice!!
I got a piece of mouton pelt, plus a piece of Horween steerhide (as backing) that should be enough for two mouton collars. I may just aim for one universal for straight zip jackets, and one universal for a cross zip jackets with come with much wider collars.
I’ll...
Thanks for that tip! The mouton I want to make is for a Vanson Enfield I just got. It will be my winter jacket!
I know what you mean re aero collar - I tried to wear a beanie hat with my aero jacket collar stood up - and it did press into my neck - quite uncomfortable I must say as I couldn’t...
