I wore one jacket for the whole winter!

Rain or shine I’ve been wearing just one (of 3 I own) for this whole winter!

My other winter jacket was sent to a jacket maker to have a mouton collar made - sent it in Nov and hopefully get it done this month at last.

I’ve been off this forum and stopped browsing classified for 4 weeks as well.

What I’ve learned?

1) one jacket per season is enough. No need to overcomplicate the wardrobe

2) nothing beats a heavy HH or goatskin - so touch - can just ignore the weather rain or shine

3) I got an Aussie leather hat to go with it - a bit cold if it’s minus - otherwise I’m totally rainproof above the waist

4) the jacket got so molded to my body I begin to forget it’s existence sometimes

5) a jacket with side adjusters allows layering easily in cold weather

Ive found myself wearing the same two (one leather and one tweed) most of the time this year too. Makes the closet full of choices seem kind of silly. But then I just bought another off the classified last night…

Got to -10 on coldest day. Any colder I’d get my Canada goose out!
Then you're probably very resistant to the cold. I only take my leather jackets out when it's 10 celsius or warmer. Until then, I can wear the shearlings.
It's a different matter if I'm only travelling by car.
But most of the time I have to walk or wait on the platform in the cold, or the climate on the train is too cool ... and then I just prefer a warm jacket.

I tried shearling jackets before (Irvine) but heck it was sooo warm after I walked a little, and when I unzipped the collar I felt cold again so had to zip it back up! And on the train, especially during busy hours - man carrying a shearling jacket doesn’t make friends with fellow passengers? I just kept squeezing into people when the train wobbled!

Hence I sold the Irvine!

I’m still on the look for a LW B2 though!

For this JL goat jacket - it has quilted lining, and I can layer a Patagonia R4 fleece under it, plus a merino base layer, plus a merino neck warmer (cannot fit a scarf under), and it keeps me toasty warm. Best thing is it’s windproof so no more windchills.

I’ve a pair of really heavy duty burgundy colour suede trousers with double knees which I bought for grinding metal (as protective gear) - was thinking of wearing it this winter but didn’t want to get the suede hem muddy so it stayed in the wardrobe for a whole winter…

Where exactly are you that you are implying winter is somehow over on February 11th?

One jacket is enough, yes, but I want more.

HH and goatskins are great leathers, yes.

I also mostly wear the same jacket just with different layering underneath. But I also enjoy having different jackets even if they're just hanging in the closet. This jacket hobby goes beyond just being practical for me.

The quilted lining JL uses has Thinsulate as backing material. So it's not thick but warm enough. With a sweater as mid layer it can get me through the PNW winters. It was dry cold this week down to about -5C this morning and the sweater layering plus the quilted lining and the fur collar was sufficient enough for me. I'd compare this set up to about the same warmth as just a base layer and a puffer jacket. JL jackets are built for wearing, I pose with other jackets but the JL Shinki G-1 is basically what I wear 80% of the time.

I also keep a cheaper packable puffer (Primaloft) in my car and office, just in case I get stuck in situations where the heater breaks down, which happens more often than I'd like...

That’s a nice G1 jacket!!

I just got an email that the mouton collar for my Vanson Enfield HH is completed! Will post pics when it arrives.

That goatskin is just incredible - so thick yet pliable - and after wearing it a lot the semi aniline finish started to develop a shine - I hope you don’t miss it!
