...that's beautiful. lol
The longest flight I've had to endure carrying a hat was a six hour flight from Sydney to Perth with a very stiff Akubra Coolabah. It survived very well stowed under the seat in front.
Woah, once again some excellent pictures. I've been thinking about getting a moonstone Fed IV for a little while now, and you've just sealed the deal. Thanks! :)
Luckily hatsdirect's bricks and mortar store is only a couple of hours drive out of Sydney, so I should be able to head out there...
I have an International made from the same Pilofelt. It came with a centre crease, but with some steam and a little effort I've reshaped it to a teardrop and altered the side dents slightly.
It seems to take a little more work than regular felt, and still seems to retain some memory of its...
Another Australian here, and I'm wearing felt year-round.
Sydney is fairly temperate. There was a very hot, very humid heatwave in January, but I managed to avoid it on holiday in Tasmania. :) Warmer climes, as elvisroe mentions, are also a lot drier. In those sorts of conditions, I don't...
I've only been there once, but I'm a big fan of City Hatters, in the middle of Melbourne, Australia. They've been operating out of the same premises for just under a hundred years now, and have an excellent range.
There isn't much on the Australian market in my size at all, let alone hats that aren't Akubras, so I thought I got a pretty good price on this size 7 1/8 Knox.
It turned up this morning, and is indeed a great looking hat, a much richer colour than it looks in those photos, and it's in good...
Renmark
My Renmark from ebay arrived this morning, and went straight from the box to my head. :)
I should try to get some more pictures in daylight tomorrow, after the raindrops have dried out, but here's what it looks like on.
The Cavanagh Edge Primer thread mentions that Akubra are...
My only hard and fast rule is that wider-brimmed hats don't get tilted as much as the stingies. Like PabloElFlamenco, I don't think I can pull off the flamboyancy that a huge tilt really demands.
Apart from that, my hat tends to move around on my head depending on my mood, what I'm doing at the...
Akubra Renmark
Just scored this 60cm (7 1/2) Akubra Renmark. Digging around for info on it led me to a thread here talking about the Cavanagh edge Akubra are putting on these. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
This is my first vintage hat. Kind of feels like I'm officially addicted...
Coolabah
There haven't been too may real country styled hats in this thread so far, so I thought I'd share some pictures of my first hat, an Akubra Coolabah.
The brim's about as wide as it looks; 80mm, or about 3.125". It came with a fairly sharp downward curve in front and back which has...
Heh, thanks. I was a little worried about how the black would come out - I share a house with a long-haired cat who's feverishly changing coats for the summer. Just getting it to look that good was quite a chore. :)
Black Akubra Bogart
My most recent purchase, a Bogart in black. Main reason I bought this was because I wanted a black hat for a funeral. Don't usually wear black very much, but I'm enjoying the bogie so much I think my next hat will be another one in gray. This is how it was creased in the...
